Has anyone had any problems with the air conditioning in their Eos?

We took delivery of our 2008 in April, and it's just getting to the point where we're looking to put the air on (+35C and raining - air conditioning weather!)

We can hear the compressor turning on, but the air coming out of the vents is lukewarm at best, even after turning the climate control down to "Lo" (we have the Dual-Zone Climate Control). The fan turns itself up to max, poor thing, trying to cool the cabin down, but the air is best described as "sorta warm" instead of cold.

We're going to call the dealer tomorrow, but we're kinda miffed. :/

That stinks!! I remember reading a couple posts about the same problem. A dealer fix for sure - can't remember the tech reasons why. Try searching the club or doing a google search. It's best to know the most likely cause when you get to the dealership.

Same thing happened to me last month after having the car for nearly 5 months. Finally a hot day in Seattle and NO A/C.

In to the dealer who decided the "pressures switch" was bad. Had to order the part for a fix at a later date. All day job or at least that's what they told me. The service man told me it was "rare", but strangely enough, he had another Eos in for the same fix.

Mine's in next Monday for exactly the same thing. I have the dual air. I noticed I wasn't getting cool air through the vents. But the biggest problem was internal condensation. We had a spell of hot weather in the morning followed by rain in the afternoon. At teatime the inside of the glass was covered in condensation & then the air-con couldn't dry the air to clear the screen.
I'll post what they do next week.

Yep, I've had exactly the same problem. I can usually keep the interior comfortable by switching the a/c off and tilting the sunroof to let a stream of air run through the car from the dash vents. In the recent good weather the interior became hot enough to need the a/c but when I switched it on it just blasted warm air and the inside became like a hothouse. The dealer had the car for a day and diagnosed a faulty switch/valve. They could not fix it as the replacement part is on back order so I've got to live with a hot car for now. I'll find out the exact description of the failed part and let you know when it's fixed.

I didn't tell the whole story in my post. When I took the car in the first time, they had it most of the day before letting me know they needed a pressure switch (which they didn't have in stock) because the "spin" was that this is a rare failure. They told me that they had the part coming on an "overnight" delivery and scheduled me for a repair on the following Tuesday (Monday was a holiday.) So they actually ended up with a 4 or 5 day delay for this overnight shipment.

I take the car in the following Tuesday and later that day, they call me and say the part never got there and I could come in and pick the car up. About a half hour later, they call me back and say they will be giving me a part that was on back order for another customer since he didn't make an appointment.

So, later that day I pickup up the car and its fine, but now someone else will have to wait for a pressure switch for this "RARE" failure. And now this thread is full of other owners with the same problem. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't happen to me again AND I EXERCISING MY A/C ALMOST EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE CAR to make sure it still works and also the seals in the system don't dry out.

Yeah, I've told my friends that you HAVE to turn your AC on regularly, even during the winter, to keep the seals lubricated. The trouble is, sometimes it's hard to justify turning on the AC in the winter when it's -40C and the windchill's down around -60C.

We had the AC in the Eos on in May, just to run it, but we had the top down at the time. We heard the compressor running and thought everything was ok. Guess we were wrong.

Actually, it doesn't matter how cold it is if you have the A/C on as you just get heated A/C air. Does burn just a little more gas though.

As I recall the a/c kicks on when you ues the defrosters. Helps dry the moisture from the windows faster. My a/c is still working properly. Had to use it 2 weeks ago.

The verdict:

A faulty o-ring on one of the valves was leaking. They replaced the o-ring, recharged the system... and now the AC blows nice and cold.

Finally got my air con fixed today, after enduring two roasting 260 mile motorway journeys in last week's sun. The faulty part was a leaking high pressure switch. Hope I can now 'stay cool'!

Got mine back from service today. A/c still not working. They've had to order the switch that never gives a problem according to VW. So won't come till middle of next week. Has to come from Germany apparently.

ARGH! It worked for less than a week, and it's broken again.

We're leaving on vacation (with the Eos) for two weeks, so it'll have to wait until we get back. Sure would have been nice to have working AC for the trip! *grr*

It's been over a month since my A/C was repaired and it's still working great.

My A/C has worked flawlessly since delivery a year ago. However, I do have it routinely turned on rather than set to economy, which may avoid problems from prolonged non-use.

Mine is on 24/7.... It's an absolute must in my technical opinion...

I run mine on Econ most of the time and only have A/C on when it's warm and wet so can't open the roof, or of course when it's on screen demist so it automatically switches to A/C.

Have had no problems with it at all.

100 degrees F here in Kansas today and car was sitting outside in sun with windows down. Fired it up and it was blowing cold air in less than 2 minutes after starting and driving off.

VW climate computer seems to be smart enough to keep from turning the fan up to high speed until the system has removed the residual heat from the AC system loop so the system does not blow warm air even when the car is hot when starting up.

I have no complaints with my AC.
