Air Vents

Now that the cooler weather has hit us here in Aus Im using the heating, and yesterday noticed that while I had the heating set on 'feet' there was still the equivalent amount of air coming out the 2 side 'face' air vents (the ones facing the driver closest to the window). Theres no air coming out the 2 centre air vents (in the dashboard). I would expect none of the dashboard vents to have strong air coming out of them as they havent been selected.

Is this normal, do other people get air coming out the side air vents when they've selected feet? Other cars Ive owned I select feet and air only comes out the feet, not other places as well.

The more I turn the fan up the more air comes out on the feet, but also more air comes out from the side 'face' vents.

Sorry eveyone, hope this makes sense, not sure how to explain this! Would love to know if others experience the same or if my air vents are just not shutting off for some reason.

I had a creaking noise when the air con was on and it turns out to be the chrome trim on the air vents. Not a major issue by any means. Doesn't a certain amount of air come out of vents if they are open anyway, even if the switch to feet or windscreen is on?
The side ones are for window demisting, not for your face, so air does come out of those...the face ones are the centre ones and those stop when you select windscreen etc
aha, ok, so regardless of what I have the controls set on, face/feet/window etc, air will always come out of those front side vents in accordance with what speed the fan setting is on? Sorry just clarifying in my mind
I think so... They are normally directed at the windows, you see...

Not sure I agree with you there Simon.

There are separate side-window demisting vents set in the A-pillar out of which air comes when the knob is set to demist.

The side chrome-ringed vents are for ventilation same as the centre ones, not for demisting.

Oh well.... I can't be right about everything....

Just most things ;)
Ok, so, is the same thing happening in anyone elses Eos. When you have your vents on feet or window or face etc, does air still come out the side vents of the dash the same speed as you've selected elsewhere? If anyone can tell me if the same thing happens on their car then I'll rest, just want to make sure mine isnt incorrect. If its a standard thing then thats ok. Thanks guys.

To answer your question - yes, there is some coming out of the dash vents too even when the knob is set to 'footwell'. To stop it all you need to do is switch the vent itself to 'Off'. Nothing should come out then.

interestingly when i picked up my car whoever had fitted the mobile phone kit had failed to put the vent cable back properly resulting in constant air to my feet
ah ha, great thanks everyone! Glad to know Im not alone.
Has anyone figured out how to get warm air on the feet and cool air out of the face vents?

I like warm feet, but don't like hot air blowing in my face.

Si I thought the same as you mate! lol oh well at least I can use the excuse that I'm a woman and therefore not supposed to know about these things! :D

Don't think it's possible.
Years ago many cars had the 'fresh air' feature to allow this but they all seem to have forgotten how to do it.

My previous car - Australian made and designed Ford Territory
did it through the aircon - not fresh air at face and heated air at feet - one of the best things about Aussie made Fords - pity the rest of the world can't learn little things like that from us

Ford UK's Cortina was the first car to have face-level fresh-air ventilation in 1965.

Everyone copied it and some improved on it; the best system by far was on the Audi 100 of the 1970s.

Since then however it has gone out of fashion and I don't know of a car with it. They all seem to have the face-level vents linked to the heating/aircon system now so you can't have it warm in one place and cool in another.

Major flaw in car design I think.
