Hi Guys

Two questions really both related to the alarm system in my Brand Spanking New and Shinney VW EOS Sport 2L. (Sorry had to get that in. Only got in on Friday and still have to remind myself that it eventually came after a painful 18 weeks of waiting).
Anyway - Question 1 - The alarm has gone off 3 times now for no apparent reason. Wondering if there was a known fault and if anyone had any advice. I did see another thread on the alarm system but thought I would post in Technical as well to ensure read.
Question 2 - I was thinking that the interior sensors could be setting it off, thus wanted to disable. Read the manual (Well a little bit) and read that you can press the Interio AAlarm button under drivers armrest and it should turn yellow when disabled. I have pressed it and nothing appears to happen. again, any advice from the forum would be greatly appreciated guys.
Many thanks

I had the EoS alarm go off once when I used my key to unlock the drivers door instead of using the unlock button on the key fob. I have always used the key fob unlock button ever since!

Def not a mouth or fly. Too cold for this time of year. However, read on forum that someone else had similar problem and turned out to be the boot wasnt closed probably. Opened and closed it this morning and doesnt appear to have gone of since.
Maybe I was just be a little too loving towards my shinney EOS and dint want to close the boottoo hard. LOL
I will let you know if happens again.
Thanks guys

Wishful thinking. It wasnt the Boot door as it has gone off again this evening and boot hasnt been used. How annoying.

Gazzer - Maybe a silly question but when u say u had the sensitivity lowered. Did u have to get this done by the dealer or is this something I can do myself.

Many thanks Guys

Not sure if the door needs to be open but, remove key, open driver's door, little light should be red. Press button and light turns orange/yellow. If it isn't doing this then that suggests at least one problem ! I suspect the sensitivity adjustment is a dealer thing.

Coincidentally my alarm went off by itself about 5.30am this morning - although it was blowing a gale it has to be said. The alarm does go off if you open it with the key and don't put the key in the ignition within 15 secs - this is by design apparently. To press the sensor deactivate button the interior lights have to be on which I guess means either having the door open or just having turned off the ignition

In some countries the alarm system is optional and not standard, is that the problem?

Other wise the better test is to wind down a window lock the car wait for the warning light to atart flashing, reach in towards the seat. That should set it off.

I also had a problem with my alarm going off at random times. I also found that turning off the internal sensors with the door switch cured it. I took the car back to the dealer and they reduced the sensitivity level of the alarm. They told me that there were three settings, 100%, 75% or 50%. They set mine to 50% and checked that it would still go off if there was movement in the car. So far (after three days) it's been OK.

EOS Alarm Issues

We have recently purchased a new EOS (26/4/08) and are having exactly the same issues as reported in the many posts. Ours typically went off 2-4 times a day on average until the dealer made an adjustment to the sensors and now we get an activation every 15 hours+

I am currently in battle over this issue as I have been informed that VW have this fault as a known issue which has not yet got a fix available.

The issue seems to be that the sensors create a field which over time breaks out of the perimeter of the vehicle and can be activated by walking by the vehicle or even the wind. I have noticed that security lighting seems to be triggered for no reason... which does not happen when the car is in the garage.

One of the main dealers has told me that VW have told them to adjust the sensors and not to do any further work until they can find a cure.

The other has told me that they are to adjust sensors firstly and then replace the sensors and ultimately replace the alarm brains. The second dealer (supplier of vehicle) is currently trying to resolve this with the first dealer (my local VW Dealer) as they obviously don't want to do the work if they can't get paid from VW.

Having had the sensors adjusted (they said to 50%) I have found that they have actually turned the sensitivity off. The alarm will not go off at all from movement... so watch for this! (Not too sure how the insurers will re-rate this vehcile if they heard what was happening)

Such a shame.... waited a long time for delivery..... the Mrs will kill me if I have to throw it back at the dealer.

Caveat emptor.....

Hi - I know this is an old thread but wanted to pass on this tip.

My alarm started at 3am this morning - it has been raining hard and windy - it was going off every 5-15 minutes. Eventually at 4.15am I called VW Assistance and spoke with a technician who advised that just near the interior lights there are two grills which house the interior sensors. One side sends the signal and the other receives - he suggested I put a piece of tape to cover both grills, thus obstructing the sensor until I can get the car back to the dealer to have the sensors adjusted.

Its not an ideal solution and I'm not sure how my insurance would stand - but as a temporary solution it worked.

Hmmm. This is very odd... Neither of my VWs have ever had a false alarm... Maybe it's just luck, or even a dirty sensor or something... I have my fans and A/C on all the time, so maybe that helps the sensors not get windescreen type mist on them or something...

What status is the fan/ac in the cars of peoples whose go off? Don't use fans or a/c perhaps? Worth finding out if there is some kind of pattern..
