ok my dealer got back with me today and told me if the Eos wasn't fitted with an Navi system out of the factory then you can't add one... they would have to rewire the whole car, is this true?? I would like to put the oem navi since it will match the interior lights...

I understand the VW unit it can be fitted after market but is expensive, i am sure more knowledgable techy persons will post for you.

Have a look at the new Zenec 2010 which is specially designed for the VW golf 5 platform and has just hit the market over the last few weeks, much cheaper as I understand with all the same functions.

I have just had a RNS-510 nav unit fitted to my 2006 Eos, replacing the factory fitted RCD-300. I had this done by an independent VW/Audi technical specialist as I never managed to get a sensible answer from VW as to whether it was possible to install a nav unit to a car that didn't have one fitted at the time of manufacture. The GPS antenna was fitted behind the nav unit underneath the dashboard facia. They also managed to code the multi-function stearing wheel so it can control the unit correctly, incidently something VW had never managed to do. No additional wiring needed other than the aerial lead adapters (as the sockets on the back of the RNS-510 are closer together than the RCD-300) and the GPS antenna. Good luck.

It is EASY to fit the NAV system if you can get hold of one. It is a DIRECT replacement. Only thing is that you need to site the GPS antenna. I put mine on the little ledge above where the unit slides in. When you take it out, put your hand in the hole and you will feel the ledge above, just fix with some sticky pads.

I changed my RCD300 for an MFD DVD...

I even did a post if you searched for it!! http://www.vweosclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1780

Mine did!

Hi,

I bought a MFD2 DVD off Ebay over a year ago and my main dealer fitted it to my Eos for about £100, including the wheel controls and the MFD display in the dash.

I've just ordered a Zenec NC2010 as an upgrade, so will be selling the MFD2 once that arrives if anyone wants to make a sensible offer!

I'm interested in how you get on with the NC2010. I see Zenec are quoting 20th May for release although it said 15th May on the 14th! Depending on price I might be interested in the MFD2 if the 2010 is too expensive.

I have been monitoring the release of the Zenec since last November, (I understand it was delayed due to VW asking if they could do a couple of changes to the specs).

I have sent a couple of emails to connects2 the UK importer and to Zenec in Germany, but I have two fundamental questions out standing before I placed my order, what is the background colour when switched on, is it blue as per the the Eos, does the reversing schematic show up as it currently does when selecting reverse gear on the car (the little plan of the car) .

If you have ordered one, do you know the answers to these, would be greatful knowing ??

Multiple responses,

Pen - I understand it's very easy, though being lazy I paid VW do fit it as the cost was very reasonable. Not having the steering wheel controls will not be an issue.

I have not decided a price yet and want to wait until the Zenec is fitted before selling the other unit anyway, but I will put the details here when I do.

Derek - Don't know about the background colour, it looks black from the pictures I've got, which is fine by me. The only thing that I'm not 100% on is the fact that the buttons will be white illumination, not red. As to the reversing picture, I don't know - mine never did that, so never been worried about it.

I'll post an update here once the Zenec has arrived and let you all know, plus some pictures of what it does.

Hi Dobbo

You can now download a pdf brochure for the NC2010 from www.zenec.com, i tried attaching a copy to this thread but got myself lost in the process, in fact it logged me out and I have had to re log on.

The NC2010 seems to be generally listed on the web at £899.99, but Car Audio technics have it listed at £699.99, CAT also list a releasedate of June 26th

from what it is listed as doing, if CAT are true to what they have on their web, £699,99 would be a good buy.

Zenec Easy Fit

I have had the ZE-MC2000 with the seperate Nav unit for a couple of Months and all is well and have no complaints
I fitted it myself in less than an hour that included the seperate Nav unit and the I pod dock the Head unit is just plug and play remove the Fasia around the Radio, TOP TIP cover the fasia with masking Tape so you dont scratch it them it is just unscrew the 4 screws slide the old one out and drop the new one in it is that simple the only time consuming part was threading the wires for the media box and Nav unit but just use an old coat hanger to thread through and pull the cable through with this having taped the wires to one end easy.

Any questions fire away, I bought the whole lot off E bay brand new in box with Warranty from a Shop based in Nottingham, next day delivery why wait for the new model it has no better features I think?

"why wait for the new model it has no better features I think?"

Hi Tweedy68

The advantage of the 2010 is that it is an all in one unit, there is no need to fit the seperate Nav unit, and therefore no need for routing seperate wires.

installing the rns 510 in 09 eos

Hi.
I just got an 09 Eos. I could not find one with a nav unit. I was thinking about installing the rns 510. I am looking for some help and have a few questions.
Has anyone installed on an 09?
How did it go/is it working?
Has anyone purchased one from oemplus or vagnavs.com?
I am under the impression that Sirius antenna will plug right back in to the rns 510. Is this correct?
Will I need the radio antenna adaptor or other wire/antenna to connect the sat radio?
Thanks for the help!

Zenec 2010

Hi

I rang Ray Smith Audio in Edinburgh last week and they still have no date for the release. They still stock of the old model and tried to sell me that as being the same. The info I have is that it wont now be available in the UK until the end of August.
The illumination is white according the brochure " to match the in car illumination" - very strange as my Eos has Red illumination.
Its a great looking unit, with high end spec and features I cannot wait to get my hands on one !!!

HI Stormin

Just to let you know I took delivery of my Zenec 2010 yesterday, I just have to fit it now, (it will not be for a few weeks yet)

Got married this morning, bad divorce 10 years ago, met my new partner 9 years ago and we tied the knot this morning, so busy busy, going away Sat for a couple of weeks so will not be able to fit my new toy for a week or so yet.

installing any navigation isn't bad in the eos, i will be posting pictures later today of my completed pioneer install, only took me a couple hours between taking things apart and running lines and getting the exact fitment i wanted, the harness takes a bit to do if you want steering wheel controls, i needed three modules plus a harness and a euro antenna adapter

i wanted the features of an aftermarket versus the factory as i considered both units, the rns510 is plug and play though, all that is needed is to run the gps antenna and i mounted mine just above the head unit spot right under the ac, there is a shelf there and i notice sometimes i get a little interference while the vehicle is stationary but works pretty well
