I am a long time VW driver and had the first EOS in Canada when it arrived last fall. Since delivery I have noticed a knocking/tapping sound coming from the front end (through the vents) intermittently engine on or off. My dealer tells me it is a known problem started with the 2005 Jetta and they are looking into it, have not found the cause as yet. It is obviously low priority because it does not affect the operation of the vehicle. Has anyone else experienced this and figured out what the cause is? After driving the car for a year, it is starting to grate on my head like Chinese Water Torture! Don't get me wrong, I love my car... would love it better if it didn't do this.

Sorry not something I have noticed either. I doubt if its a common problem else we would have heard about it on here before now.

PS welcome to the club I'm sure you will enjoy participating.

I have, on occasion, experienced what could be a similar noise ... sounds almost like an electric fuel pump used to sound. It occurs only when car is idling, and then disappears when is is revved to go. It's not so loud that it is annoying and has not affected engine performance. So .... I've just learned to live with it.

it might be the fuel sender is poorly designed if it is doing the same thing on a different model.

knocking sound

Please can you give more details about the sound..... I think I might have heard something, but not 100% sure what you mean!
I was at the dealership today and they finally heard the sound. They think it may be the fan for the ventilation system. I will take it in next week to have it checked more thoroughlyu and repaired or replaced.

I have also had a very annoying knocking sound. Sounds like two glass bottles clinking together. It only happens when I go around corners or over bumps! It has become very annoying and even more frustrating for the poor technicians at my local dealership who have done the upmost to resolve the problem but without success. They have had my car for five and a half weeks thus far with no luck of resolving the issue. They seem to have checked over everthing under the sun on the car. But I am told there are 7000 mechnical points on the roof alone and they have been through three quarters of these thus far. VW themselves have not been able to come up with any explanation and we are awaiting a highly skilled VW technician to come down from head office in the new year. I will however be without my car until this is fixed and at present there does not seem to be any ETA. I am very sad about the whole situation but I am very impressed with the level of customer service shown to me by my local dealer, I am driving round in one of their cars and they have kept me informed at all times which is all I can expect from anyone. If anyone does have any thoughts on this issue please reply. Apart from the roof the following areas have been checked: rear panels on drivers side, windows on drivers side, boot and spare wheel area. These are areas of the car that I have been told have been checked others may have been as well. Fingers crossed VW will come up with something otherwise it seems as if my new car which I love dearly will have to be replaced and at no cost to me!

Newbie here...just read this thread and I have something similar - too be honest just been ignoring and turning the volume up, but having read this interested to see what you find.
My experience is a "tinging" sound when cornering or going over bumps....seems to come from steering area or front driver door. Usually just a couple of "tings" then stops..
annoying more than anything - hopefully

Howler sounds very much like my problem.
I would suggest that you go to your local garage and tell them that i am also having the issue and thus far it has taken vw 10 weeks to even find where it is coming from.
I had a very interesting conversation with VW Milton keynes yesterday who said that the issue is only at olevel 2 technical and needed to be at 3 for someone to come and look at the car from MK therefore i have now put pressure ont he garage to do this. The garage themselves are at their wits end and they could not get anyone down to speak to them. I have now told them fix it quick or order me a new car. I have to be honest I am starting to get furious about this paying 27k for a car i dont expect to have these issues. Headoffice are now going to have to deal with me as I have to say that if they do not get someone from MK down in the next 5 days I am going to my solicitor.

Hi,

jccovell, where are you from? Could you describe the sound a little better? It doesn't sound component related the way you describe if it happens when you are cornering. It sounds like a couple of pannels knocking together.

I don't recall you mentioning exactly where you think the sound is coming from unless I misread...

JCcovell - did you get any joy??
My "tinging" has become quite rare now - it could be something around the door panel/window area/steering wheel area - anyhow I'll keep listening out for it and when it returns go to the garage....we all know that when we take it to the dealer the noises stop!!!!

I've notice a strange clicking sound in the passenger's side dash as well. But it seems to be louder when it's cold out, and only lasts a few minutes.

I figured it was good thing :)

knocking roof-noises

dear Eos-friends
it has been a while since I posted another thread. I was suffering the same problem as many of you with the noises in the C-pillar left side of the roof. Apparently there were no cures to this known, although many things were tried. Well, maybe I have some good news: for the time being (!) my knocking noises are gone! I went to the dealership and they adjusted a hinge in the C-pillar left side of the roof-mechanism. It has been 6 weeks now without any noise! Spread the word because maybe this is a help to all the others! I hope it stays away and with the good weather coming up here in Belgium, we can enjoy driving topless!

regards!
