Hi, does anyone know if its possible to adjust the sensitivity of the automatic lights on function, as I tend to think it brings the headlights a little early for my liking would be better if at a low light it just turned sidelights on and then when its a bit darker it turned the headlights on.

for example the other day mid morning I turned into a narrow side street and the lights came on the oncoming car thought i had flashed him and started to drive towards me

I have encountered same situation, but so far have discovered no work around. It really hasn't been a significant problem, as there appears to be limited perceived difference between day driving lights and night low beams. Will be interested to see if any sensitivity adjustment exists!
Cheers!

My Eos has been in the garage for a week as I am getting water in the rear foot well. But when I took the car in I asked them to take a look at the sensitivity of the light sensor and was told they could do nothing despite the fact the sun was bright enough to need sunglasses and the lights still came on.
If I get time I may try to conact VW direct.

2.0T Leather, shadow blue, Westwood alloys, Lux pack, plus some other stuff I have forgotton

I would also add that it does not always appear to be the same light levels. Some times when I start off the lights come on even though its broad day light and they stay on (till I switch them off) other times they always come on when its darker but only stay off when the sun is beaming down.

I have taken to switching on manually and bypassing the auto switch, which incidently does not allow fog lamp switch on and at this time of year they are quite often needed (at least in the UK).

Auto lights

I had the same problem in my Passat two years ago and there is no fix that I could find.

Had the same problem in bright morning sun and just reverted to the turn it off option when needed, not high tech but it works !!!

This probably does not help you a lot and I might be wrong, but I guess there is a sensor somewhere maybe in the grill? a simple light detector which when it gets a reduction in light it turns the lights on. A main dealer should be able to confirm if this goes low or high with a reduction in light. For example if the reistance goes low when it sees light then by removing it, the light stay off permanently until you override them. Then again maybe messing with the factory electrics is not a great idea,

However just like other sensors I would have thought it will be sensitive to light and if it is dirty it will cause problems, maybe if you can find the sensor you may be able to clean it and make it less sensitive.???

Could have a point there, I will check mine and see if it makes any difference.
By the way I think the sensor is in the middle of the dash at the windscreen.
