I have owned many automatics but this is the first that will actually allow the car to roll backwards if you come to a stop on a slight incline and take your foot off the brake while still in "D". Anyone else noticed this unexpected transmission behavior - or is it unique to my edition?

Sorry to say that all VAG cars with DSG do it, unless they have the factory fit "Hill Hold" system, which is not an option in all markets for the Eos.
You just have to be quick on the handbrake and I would say you do get used to it. I personally believe Hill hold should be standard fit with any DSG equiped car but you try telling your market area product development manager that.

Hi
somewhere else in another thread, there is already a long discussion on DSG, roll-back, etc. If you try an remove your foot slowly from the break, you'll find in most cases the roll-back to be truly minimal, almost as in a 'regular' automatic...

I really enjoy the DSG, but we live in the mountains and it is a little challenging sometimes. I would be nervous if I let someone else drive it. I tried it this morning in my driveway, letting my foot of the brake, very slowly. It rolled about 30 feet before it ever stopped itself.
So I never thinik it will hold itself. I use the handbrake or put my left foot on the brake and use the right for the gas, to get started. I never brake with the left foot, don't want to start any bad habits and ride the brake and gas at the same time.
