As a non-iPod owner of an "iPod enhanced" Eos, I'm having a lot of trouble finding out how to downgrade my Eos back to just the straight-up and infinitely more useful Aux In jack.

Could someone who has the standard Aux In jack please take a picture of what's inside the console, under the arm rest?

My question is really whether the wires from the input jack run straight back to the radio, or if they plug into a 12-pin connector which then runs back to the radio. My dealer doesn't have an Eos in stock that we can look at and we're trying to find out which parts to order.

Thanks for any help.

I have this radio (MP3 CD changer, dash mounted)

This is what's under my center console. I think these connectors are there for center console mounted CD changer OR iPod adapter, and power for center console CD changer. I'm THINK they are present in all Eos models.

Where I need help is this:
The standard Aux In jack uses a mostly square 4-pin connector. I need to know if this 4-pin connector then clips into the rectangular 12-pin connector (in the photo above) and then runs to the radio, or if it runs all the way back as is. If it is indeed a short adapter there in the console, then that's the part I need. It's the part a LOT of us probably need.

Otherwise, they use two different wiring harnesses and that's the end of that; aftermarket is the only reasonable solution.

Some help from the Eos owners with factory Aux In jacks would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I have the factory Aux In jack on my 2008 Lux. Where you have that black rectangle in your photo, I have a mini plug and my black rectangle says "Aux In". The rest of the space is entirely storage. I'm not sure how to access any wiring like you show to answer your question but if you tell me what you'd like me to look for, I'm willing to help.

Thanks, Darren.

Right - the non-iPod Eos has a regular storage bin in the area where the iPod adapter is in mine. I've never seen the center console without the adapter installed, so a picture would help, but if you see a couple of screws in the bottom, those have to come out. Then the large bin pops out very easily with a gentle pry from a small screwdriver placed under the narrow front edge.

Once the bin is out, you can see if you have this rectangular connector, and if it's unused. If IS being used, can you confirm that what's is plugged into it runs to the Aux In connector? A photo would also be great.

Thanks again.

Here's a photo inside my console. Granted its a bit messy in there. I was rummaging around looking for screws. I really don't see a way to take out the bin; it really is moulded to be one with the console. I saw no screws or "edge".

Yowch! I mean - thanks!

That's a different center console altogether and, no, that sure doesn't just snap out.

Now that I've seen that, I think I'm ready to completely give up on this and go aftermarket. Two different dealers have been stumped by this as well.

Thanks for the photo. I'll send a photo of my aftermarket solution when I get it.

Pulled the console bin out of our Eos to show my aftermarket aux-in installation.

First picture shows the bin out:

Second picture shows the bin in place:

I thought about putting the 3.5mm panel connector in where the original aux-in should go (the black rectangle in the rear of the small cubby, similar to Darren's), but it was a little too wide. My wife also liked the extra room in the larger cubby to stow her MP3 player and its wiring. For even more room I pulled the iPod adapter sleeve out and put a plastic blank-off plate in the bottom (where the two screws are).

Matt - I didn't see the smaller white connector loose underneath our console. I did see a very similar one plugged into the 12V convenience outlet in the back of the console, so you may want to check to make sure that's hooked up and functional in your car.

Doug - You're right. That white connector was supposed to be plugged into the 12V outlet. Glad I found that out before I went to use it!

I've got a Blitzsafe Aux In on the way.

Got the Blitzsafe part today. Click, done. I removed the plastic blank that occupied the spot where the Aux In jack goes, and the wires from the Blitzsafe exit there. Easy as pie, and every bit as tasty.

Done and done.

I am confused, for all of the posts, I still read nothing about the problem of having Aux in your underwear - which I personally would be very concerned about.

Which version of the BlitzSafe product did you use? I asked the BlitzSafe folks and they recommended VW/AUX DMX V.5, but the picture of the product shows a connector that would not match the one I have in there. The v.3A looks more like mine, though, so I think that may be what I need. I have a 2008 VR6, and everything on mine matches your pictures, so it should have the same wiring as yours.

I bought the V.3A. Seemed like when I was shopping around last year, one of BlitzSafe's vendors, Enfig, seemed to know more about the products than BlitzSafe itself. Or at least they were quicker answering my e-mail questions.

Here it is for $59.99 on Enfig's site: http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/VW_AUX_DMX_V3A.html

Funny thing is after I went to all that trouble to install an aux in, my wife rarely uses it. She's addicted to Sirius.
