Hi,
I got an '06 2.0T with the standard 8 speaker system but I can't find the AUX-in in the center console nor in the glove box... When they started to fit it as standard? :(
It's a factory option in the UK, mine cost £25.

I don't know if it's standard equipment in the various US models. However, it was standard in my '08 Lux edition and it's in the center console.

Works fine with my MP3 player, but NO program options on the radio display. I'm considering getting the iPod adaptor, but I don't know if it's available as an after market option from my dealer. Next time I'm in, I'm going to ask them.

Eos_Up,

You may want to just use the aux-in for the iPod. You can always get a mount and a long cable and manage the songs on your iPod through the iPod itself.

I have had 2 different solutions. In my Passat, I bought a unit that plugged into the unused CD changer giving both audio and power to the iPod. It did not have control through the radio. I got a mounting unit to hold the iPod and snaked the cabling from the glove box to the mount and controlled playback in the iPod itself. This can be done using the aux-in without giving power to the iPod.

In my Eos, I got the iPod adaptor. It powers the iPod and I can have some control through the radio, but not optimal control. The adaptor mimics a CD changer and will give you access to the first 5 playlists on your iPod. CD 6 is used for your entire library. You can skip songs and use the radio's control to 'shuffle' by changing the settings to mix.

The songs are not displayed on the radio and you cannot navigate through artists, genres, songs, etc. You are limited to the first 5 playlists.

If charging the iPod while driving is important to you, get the iPod kit. If managing your music while driving is more important to you, use the aux-in jack.

I hope this helps you make your decision.

Thanks for the input. I think I'll take your advise at least for a while as the direct plug-in (3.5mm-->3.5mm) seems to work well. Also, I find myself mostly listening to my Sat Radio.

Aux in

The "Aux In" jack was standard on the base model in Canada. It works great. I use it with my Hewlett Packard PDA to play any mp3 in the pda's built in memory or SD memory card that I plug into it. I also have put mp3's onto a cd disk. The radio tuner knob steps through the songs and the song artist and title scroll across the radio screen. This is the basic radio too! It also plays sound from the headphone jack on my phone although obviously I still use the handset to speak to the caller.

$G Nano Charging

Hi, the 4G Nano needs 5V to charge not 12V & so you need to buy a SCOSCHE adapter. I got one from an Auatralain supplier & one from an English supplier (I needed 2!). Will now charge fine. Regards, Mark

I am pretty sure that all iPods have always been 5 volts as they were always capable of being charged via a PC USB port.
I don't have the VW iPod prep but the one I have will charge an old iPod Mini, a 1G Touch, a 2G Nano, but not a 4G Nano.
When I connect the 4G Nano the Nanos' screen displays "This iPod cannot be charged by this accessory!".
It would also not charge with an old Apple mains charger nor a Belkin 12V charger (both displayed the same message).
I ended up having to buy new 240V and 12V chargers for the Nano.

My UK IPOD prep does not charge the 4G Nano - is this known? Everything else on the ipod works fine...

Cheers
Mine doesn't either, however my other ipods all charged it's only my new nano that doesn't. Very strange. Another way for Apple/VW to make money?

Interested in finding out how you did your own aux in. My EOS doesnt have one and I would simply like to plug in my IPOD/MP3 player and listen. Happy to do all the controlling from the player itself.

Cheers

My wife and I just bought an '09 EOS, and it came with the center console iPod adapter. Preferred to have the standard aux-in jack, but it seems like every EOS on the lot had the optional iPod adapter.

Fortunately there's an easy way to restore the 3.5mm aux-in jack with aftermarket parts. I bought the BlitzSafe VW/AUX DMX V.3A adapter from Enfig. It plugs into the VW "CD changer" plug hidden underneath the console, which the iPod adapter is connected to. Wriggle out the plastic bin under the armrest to access the plug, and disconnect the iPod stuff. This is of course the location for '09 models; I can't vouch for prior years. The Blitzsafe adapter has RCA outputs, which you will need to adapt to a 3.5mm jack for MP3 player use. I found a cool RCA to panel-mount 3.5mm jack on www.shipstore.com; search for part # PPLIC35PM. Drill a hole in the bottom of the console wherever you'd like, mount the 3.5mm jack, connect the Blitzsafe adapter, and stuff all the wires underneath the bin.

Works great, and the parts were less than $100.
