Hi There!
I assume you mean DC sockets ... if so, you are in luck. There are two ... one in front dash, and a second one facing back seat in back of arm rest.

Schoolhousefred is correct.
There is a thread on here where someone installed a DC socket into the little cubby hole on the drivers side for a GPS system I think. There were some pics as well, I dont remember exactly but a search of the threads should reveal which one.

I'd quite like an extra DC socket in the 'cubby hole' on the door side on the steering wheel. The link mentioned above:
http://www.vweosclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=371&highlight=dc+socket
doesn't really cover the technical details.
Anyone know if this can be done without taking half the dash off.
I wonder if Simon's EOS manuals could help. I guess all I need is +12v and ground and a mountable socket. Not really fussed if it remains on when ignition is off.

Hi,

The way he has demonstrated it in the thread you sent is pretty good as it happens.... You can ground the device to any metal screw which screws into the metal body. For the live, he has used a spade connector to connect straight into the fuse box. Not sure I woud do it that way... Normally there are some runs of blades along the side of the fuse box which has two sections, one perm live and other ign live. I can't see that in his diagram, so you may just have to use an empty slot.... Do ensure that the current drain is not too high with what you are using.....

Devices like Tom Tom and Road Angels don't use much power, so they are OK... Perhaps just use a 5 amp fuse (or less!!)

An inline fuse is good also (as shown in that diagram in the other thread)

If you make the connections like that, you can firstly run the wires to somewhere in that area and drill a further accessory socket in the dash with a small toothed holesaw.

Having said all that, personally, I would just get the adapter and plug it in the socket in the ash tray!! ;)

I think it's about time car makers woke up to the fact that people have lots of gizmos needing power (phone, nav/camera warning etc.). It's unfortunate the standard power socket is the clunky cigarette lighter.

Although it would be nice to have another type of power plug in cars, It would be interesting to see what kind of world standard they could come up with. A bank of USB plugs might be useful. Until then I stick with my multiplug adaptor. I personally don't much like modifying the original vehicle. I did buy the blue tinted outside mirrors, and I love how they cut down on headlights at night, and they were extremely easy to retrofit. Other than that I really have no plans to make anymore changes to the car. It is already as close to perfect as any car I have ever owned.
