I have finally thrown out the RCD-500 & had an AVC-9000 head unit installed into my 2007 Eos. It now has DVD, Nav, Bluetooth, ipod connectivity, radio & reversing camera. Threw a subwoofer into the back & all sounds great. Rob from Auspacks in Melbourne sold me the unit & my local auto electrician put it in. It works from the steering wheel controls also. Everyone should go & get one! Regards, Mark

Hi Mark,

I've had my AVC9000 for about 6 months. It is a great unit for the price.

Did you get it with the TomTom mapping, if so, did you know you can get celebrity voices for it - if not I can email you some or put a link into the thread - nothing funnier than John Cleese or Ozzie Osbourne telling you where to go.

Did you install the reversing camera, and if so where?

I wanted to install mine, but couldn't work out how to easily get through the bumper skin and abnd snake my way through one of the grommets into the boot without removing the bumper skin first - I have the instructions for the removal, but chickened out.

The reflection off the screen can be a bit offputting, if you come across a solution to this I'd be much obliged.

Cheers,

Geoff

AVC-9000 Unit

Hi Geoff, I will post some pics soon. I have the Tom Tom funny voices but haven't installed them yet. To get the reversing camera in (it works like an infrared in the dark!), my auto electrician had to remove both tail lights AND the rear bumper & put it above the licence plate. He had trouble because the Eos is SOLID with steel framing everywhere! regards, Mark

Hi,
I have a question, i am cosidering buying one of these units, can you tell me when you use navigation and playing music at the same time does it stop the music for voice guidance or not?
Yes it does stop the music - the fact that you can listen to both is good, but in urban areas the interuptions can be frequent, and on a long run the sudden interuption can scare the crap out of you - especially if you have some of the novelty voices - ie Yoda or Ozzie Osbourne.

As I have said earlier, it is a good unit, but the reflection on the screen can be off-putting - to the extent that you have to shield it with your hand at times, to be able to see the touch screen to make changes.

AVC9000 and android

Hi there, i was wondering if the AVC9000 is still pleasing or if there is a newer model that I should be looking at? Does any one know if it is compatible with an android phone. Also a referall to a Melbourne installer would be appreaciated. I know it is plug and play but I'm not confident about these type of things.

Getting the camera wiring from the license plate area through into the boot is really not that hard and does not need anything other than the interior boot trim removed! I installed one myself just before Christmas, I am using the one that replaces the factory license plate light with one that is half light and half camera, a very neat solution.

The wiring for the license plate lights goes through a grommit slightly right of center (looking at the rear of the car), you can feel it if you lay under the car and put you hand up behind the bumper. I pushed a length of wire through the grommit (had to make a new hole in it) until it dropped out the bottom, put the camera wires through from the bumper until they came out the bottom, tied them together and pulled the wire back into the boot. Simple. :)
