Hi All

Anyone got any recommendations as in where would be the
best place to sell an EOS in the UK with the exception of
a private sale?

All Help Would Be Much Appreciated

Thank You

you will struggle at the moment
recent bad weather impending tax hike and credit crunch have hit all car values
normally a dealer would buy it but they are only buying low CO2 and small cars.
private is probably you best bet unless you want to give it away
sorry for the bad news

I agree with Pacemaker, and selling a cabriolet at the end of the summer is hardly the best period.

To be more positive, why not try eBay: it's cheap and quite effective. I have sold about 10 of my own cars on there in the past decade or so. The key is to put lots of high quality photos in your ad and to do this, you need to host the pictures yourself so that they are both extra large and high resolution (eBay will compress the photos if you host with them).

By way of an example, below is the exact photo I posted in a recent eBay ad of my Renault Clio. Note the good weather, pleasant background, large size, etc. The car sold within the week.

I really think in the current climate you are going to struggle, and I mean financial and climate.

There are not many of us that will drive with the top down in all weathers, apart from rain.I do and I know many on the forum do but I think we are in a minority because of the quality and price of the car.

My local VW dealer is knocking out Golfs and Scirocos like mad but very few Eos, i found this out after having a chat with the business manager about a Passatt cc.

They have 7 used Eos on the books.

I dont think paying to advertise is the way forward, test the water with piston heads and perhaps ebay.

I have sold cars through pistonheads.com with great results.

I sold my last one through auto trader, cost £96 all in but it sold in two weeks.

The thing with the Eos is that they really hold the value, if you can keep hold of it till next May I really and honestly dont think you will lose cash.

If you try to sell now you must be prepared to take a big hit.

Either way I wish you the very very best of luck.

Thanks for your information

Only reason I want to sell it the EOS is because I got the car valued in mid August and I got quoted £19,300 by Glass's Guide and a couple of others.

Then when the 58 plate arrived thought I'd see if it decreased the value hugely. Which to my conscience it did as the price became £18,600.
Not a big fall for some but im one who isn't keen on depreciation.

So I took it down to a couple of dealers as you shouldn't always believe what you see on net and to see how much they would be willing to give as a
cash price.

Best offer I got was £17,600 or if I took the 18" Chicago's off and the Wind Deflector and sold them on e-Bay possibly looking at £18,000.

Also as Uni is going to be starting soon for me, i'd rather not pile on the mileage on the car as its already a low mileage car and rather keep it that way.
Also driving to uni in a drop down convertible sportscar people would just think im a snob :D

Playa, which price in Glass's guide did you look, it sounds to be by what you have quoted the £19,300 was the market place price (retail). All dealers will look to make round £1500 from a resale to cover their costs, this would then put the "trade" in the figures round that you where being quoted. For a good idea have a look at compu car and see the "sale" prices.

I used the Glass's guide which the Vauxhall Dealers use to mark up cars which they are going to trade in from customers.
Also known as "Glass's 3 trade-in valuations". The other companies I used were various main online companies.

Thanks for suggesting CompuCars, I had a look on there seems as if the price should be around the £19,000 mark. But you got to
bare in mind majority of CompuCars EOS's are VW Approved Used Cars. But theres always a big difference in a private person
selling a car and an authorized VW dealer.

the fact its a deisel and has DSG is in your favour, the lack of leather however will knock it back
i stick to my original statement you will struggle to sell anywhere near its true value it the moment
dealers just dont want cars and are praying the manufactures are going to give them more leeway on new cars next month to attract buyers back
friend in the buiseness says its the worst he has seen it and even the usual 'stayers' porsche and mini' are suffering
best you could hope is to px against a mark that has special offers on to minimise your loss

Playa,

Could you afford to keep the car in storage and have a not so cool run around whilst at uni - Just a thought?

I am in a similar situation with my weekend sports car. I want to sell it as the Eos has replaced it and I want a VW camper van however I am looking at a 25% fall in value in comparison to 8 months ago and would rather mothball the car than take the hit on the money.

I know everone has different circumstances however it it was me I would try to keep hold of it rather than spend time and money and a large financial loss in selling it.

Hi Simon

The car is currently is in a secure lock up.. its been declared off the road since the start of September. So therefore, I got a not so cool 2008 runaround VW Golf.

But I wanted to ideally sell it soon and see what my fate was in terms of money if I sold it now instead of waiting...

Thanks For Your Help Simon Very Much Appreciated

iv read your posts with interest and also the replies as im forced to sell EOS due to company car offered with no cash alternative and that will work out much much cheaper for me.

I had a look at dealers today and although they are offering very low values ( ridiculous in fact), £15000 for cars full price at £25200 on a 57 plate.

Im going to put mine up for sale privately .
what would people suggest would be a price for a relatively quick sale .

The glass guide suggests 19k without options for a tdi sport dsg.

its not leather but all the usual with chicago wheels and cruise.

I was thinking a price of £19400 with a bit of give was suitable on autotrader and probably piston heads.

what do others think???? too high , to low???

Sorry for the late reply been busy with uni.. if you want a quick sale and I mean quick try putting it in £16,999

As I know a Lexus Dealer who sold a 2007 plate with 6,400 miles within a week at that price. Your probably thinking thats really low, but take the Chicago's off and if they're pristine and spot on you'll easily get £500 maybe £800 if your lucky on ebay.. sell your wind deflector for £200.. total price possibly £17,999.. depending upon the Alloys wheel sale which is low but you'll be the cheapest on Autotrader/Pistonheads depending upon the colour of your car making more people interested

Hope that helps =)
