OMG ! I went down a pothole last night. I drove 1/2 mile without the flat tyre indicator coming on however instinct told me that something wasn't right. I got out to a flat tyre! So replacing it with the 18" spare although isn't quite the 18" low profile Chicago I took off........ I continued with a maximum speed of 50 miles an hour - how to draw attention to yourself!

Today I took the tyre in to be checked and it hadn't just gone down so I had to have a new tyre £159 - blooming heck, I've only just paid my excess for a new windscreen.

Good job this car is worth it.

Did it damage the wheel at all?

£160 is about what I expect to pay when I replace the 18" tyres. I guess you could get a deal if you wanted a pair or (heaven forbid) all 4 replaced.

I had the same thing happen to me. Admittedly I was playing with my iphone at the time, and went over a curb. I wasn't even going very fast, but the tire exploded... The tire shop said that it was a 'super heavy duty' tire, and therefore needs a special (which I belive is code for we are about to screw you) series to cope with the weight of a convertible. I hadn't even put 2000 miles on the tires yet, and I had to drop a couple hundred dollars...
That will teach me to play with my gizmo's while driving.

Beware - Ours is on "extra load" tyres which come at an "extra price" (she blebbed one) but I eventually got VW to confirm that the car DOES NOT need them - see thread in wheels & suspension. When it comes to changing pairs it will not get the extra load tyres.
