Hi Folks,

This is my first time posting. Got mine about two weeks ago. Loved the machine. I know it is also annoying to call her a machine, feel like she is my new wife :)

Any way, two questions now,

1) Is there a way to order and get installed a Bi-Xenon kit after delivery ?

2) Any suggestions for a DynoAudio or an alternative since I plan to upgrade the sound system in a short time.

Cheers :) ,

Grats, and welcome to the forums!

There are some people installing after-market HID (xenon) lights, however, the retrofit of the "factory" lights is really really expensive. About US$4000 for just the factory lighting kit and then you have to install them.

I was really thinking about doing this, because it is one of the few features that I really wanted for the car that was not available in Canada. Some stupid representative decided that we couldn't have them here.

It is just so expensive and requires so much rewiring that I have not taken the plunge.

I believe the vortex has a post recently about someone installing US$150 (or 200) aftermarket ones, but he said that he needed to "bend" some metal harnesses to make them fit. :O That's not something I'd be willing to do...

Ah well... No cornering Bixenons for me, just yet. :)

EDIT:
Just about forgot about the audio question. According to everyone I've asked, there isn't any way to retrofit the dynaudio system in a vehicle that didn't come from the factory with it. apparently there are some major changes to the audio components, wiring, etc. Each channel is amplified, and has "better" speakers... etc etc

I think the enhanced but not-dynaudio system is good enough for me. I replaced the head unit and speakers in my trailblazer a few years back. Installed a car-puter in its place. It was the totally worst thing I have ever done to a car, and was really happy to sell it off... finally. :( The stereo is a really integrated part of the electrical (especially in that truck due to the onstar thing)... My head hurts just thinking about the year and a half of suffering I went through with that upgrade. <shudder> Although, it was pretty neat running Windows XP and a 7" touch screen in the truck...

Hi BooRocks,

I have just seen that you are in Istanbul. I work in Istanbul quite often in the Unilever building in Bostanci (one of the two tall buildings). Do you know it?

Regarding the upgrade to Dynaudio, I would also suggest that it is a no-no.

I had my Sat Nav unit replaced due to a slight current leakage draining the battery.
Part of the Dynaudio set-up in the EOS is the DSP in the head unit. The software controlling all this is configured automatically by the system (if you can call it that). I know this because when I had the Sat Nav unit replaced, the Dynaudio Sound literal that appears on the VW splash screen disappeared on the new unit.

To get the head unit to detect the Dynaudio install, the car battery was disconnected for 30 minutes. When reconnected, the system automatically detected and installed the relevant software for the Dynaudio system. The Dynaudio Sound literal reappeared.

So I would suggest that there is more to the Dynaudio system than meets the eye.

Regards,

Ian

Don't do it.
I agree with all the other comments. Just look on the VW Vortex forums and you will see the problems people are having.
Not sure how a DIY Xenon upgrade will affect the re-sale price either, I am sure that I would not be happy with a headlight unit, looking like an opened Sardine can !

On my wife's EOS I have fitted the latest Phillips X-treme H7 bulbs which offer an 80% power increase over standard Halogen bulbs. I purchased 2 pairs (for main and dip) from
Autobulbs Direct in Ashford,Kent,UK.

We are very pleased with the performance of the Phillips, which whilst not as powerful as Xenon certainly allow for fast night driving.

Thx for your valuable info on Xenon upgrade. I guess it is not feasible to harm the vehicle for this type of an upgrade. 'cause it is out of warranty rules, and as you said it needs some very strange adjustments like "bending". I am looking forward to see if VW will have a solution for this upgrade. Asked the dealer, waiting for a response..

I understand that regarding the DynaAudio same thing happens, not feasible due to its complexity. So like Geedee recommends, going for a better bulb could do some progress for Xenons, changing the speakers (not the head unit) with a quality brand may be an answer I hope. I like to feel some fidelity in the car.

Hi Hornet, I know that place well, I am driving near those twin buildings sometimes. So drop me a message while you are in town, so I can pick you up and have some time together. :)

Ian,

Our head unit does not say Dynaudio when we first switch it on (or at least I don't think it does) Is this correct?

Another point woth noting when retro fitting Xenons, is that factory fitted ones are automatically adjusted (usually via a sensor on the rear axle) so as not to blind oncomming traffic.

With the retro (as far as I am aware) the control is via the the standard thumbwheel on the dash which is not a great idea for such powerful lights !

And I believe is illegal (in UK anyway).

Hi Gavin,

Maybe it's because I have the DVD Sat Nav that the Dynaudio Sound appears when I switch on.

The saga I had when the SAT Nav system was supposed to be faulty was that my Dynaudio Sound dissappeared. To make it reappear, the battery had to be disconnected from the vehicle for an hour or so. When the battery was reconnected, the equipment in the car announces itself much like devices in Windows (for the IT literate) and the relevant drivers are installed. Or at least thats what I understand.

I know from my own experience that the sound quality suffered when I lost the Dynaudio Sound. Thankfully it's back!

Problem is, I don't know what should appear on the standard head unit.

Anyone else with Dynaudio and NO Sat Nav system who can help our friend?

Regards,

Ian

Never heard of this ruling before, does make sense however as any time we have had Xenon lights the car has had the washers, do you know the reason behind this?

Don
I agree with Gavin, almost!
The EU legislation for Xenons fitted 'as original equipment' , states that they must have both headlamp washers AND be self leveling without driver intervention. So, that possibly leaves a loophole in the law for aftermarket equipment to be fitted without washers.

If you want to see the self leveling in action, find someone with an EOS with Xenons fitted, get them to reverse when it's dark and you will see the merry dance that the headlights do when going from reverse into forward motion.

The headlamp washers being a legal requirement is due to the Xenon beams becoming very easily distorted (and therefore dazzling to oncoming drivers) when dirty.
