Whilst parked on the blokes driveway at the weekend I noticed a massive scratch down my wing mirror :(

Can I please have lots and lots of sympathy as I'm sure it was his noisy neighbour who drives about like a complete twit on this ride on motorbike/quad thing (yes my bloke lives in pikey ville!). I will get my revenge somehow, nobody scratches my car and gets away scott free - ideas for good revenge, preferably involving his V8 engine which he likes to rev at all hours of the day and night!

Indeed.... Thats grim... Have you tried polishing it out per chance?

Might be worth a try if it is a shallow scratch... If it is deep, then touch up paint will make it less obvious...
Thing is, I'm loathe to buy a touch up pen as my dealer said he would send one on to me to take some stone chips out of the bonnet that were there when I bought it. Bearing in mind I purchased the car in July and it is now September I don't hold much hope anymore that I will receive such a pen! lol

My bloke took a look at it and managed to smooth it over a bit but it's still there and I know it's there! It's worse that I know it's there as I see it every time I open the bloody drivers door. If it was the passenger side I wouldn't be so upset as I wouldn't see it half as often....

Also means my car will look crap now in comparison to all of the other cars at the meet next month. Must put this at the top of my to do list now. Grrrr

Thanks Trish. I might ask the neighbour from hell to make a bigger scratch next time so that I have to repaint the whole car and have it done red like urs as I like it so much :D

Your colour is good for touch up paint.... Just do it veru gently to try and just get the paint in the scratch! Takes practice, but sometimes works really well!

Maybe you should just go to the dealer and order the touch up stick! It's only about a fiver and well worth it!

Looking forward to the meet up!

Deepest sympathies with you Doolally Girl...

If the scratch is deep why not get a quotation from your local VW bodyshop to see how much it'd cost to respray the wing mirror.. Although the cars immaculately new some would say not to respray it.. But some bodyshops can match the paintwork really well and you wouldn't be able to tell much of a difference

I put some deep scratches on my front bumper reversing out of multi-storey. I tried touch-up & it did conceal them, but I could still see where they were.:(
The VW dealer removed the whole bumper, then sanded & re-sprayed for just under 200GBP. The color match is perfect.:)
As the mirror housing is plastic also, if there is a slight color difference, I don't think you'll notice it.

I'd bite the bullet & get it sprayed. It's well worth it to keep your baby looking perfect.:D
Otherwise you'll always see the remains of the scratches with a touch-up repair unless your very skilled or lucky.

I'm sorry to hear of your scratch as well. My eos is 10 mo old and I'm quite anal about it too!

Just wondering if you've considered mirror covers as an option. I've seen them on the vw.com website, on ebay, etc. I've seen chrome and recently saw carbon fiber. They go on with 3M adhesive tape.

This could be an option in lieu of repainting the mirror housing itself.

Good luck!

Hey Darren

Not thought of that - although as where my bloke lives is really poor they would probably ping them off in no time and sell them on! lol

Will look into it though, thanks for the suggestion! :)

Sorry to hear about your scratch! I've so far had 4 dents in my car since march! I am going to get onto VW about the quality of the metal as it musnt be up to much considering I only take it out once a week!! And even then its on a driveway all the time! so no one can go near it!

It get ridiculous that we have to look at our cars every time we have been somewhere in them!!

I hope you get it sorted soon.

If you ring the parts department at VW they will sort out the chip paint. I have one as my mate works for audi its 2 little pots of stuff one paint and one sealer.

Hi Steph,

I think you will find the problem is associated with the "progressive crumple" deliberately designed into the car structure to reduce shock loadings during an accident. I suspect the "soft" metal is intended to absorb the impact by buckling rather than remaining rigid but this also means it is more susceptible to damage by careless people. If this proves to be a problem with my partner's Eos, I will try to "pop-out" the dents with a suction cap if they cannot be pushed out from behind with a panel beater's dolly.

If you know anyone who owns collectable cars or belongs to a car club, go have a talk with them about good panel shops in your area. These shops will be able to fix your damage and the cost is usually far less than you expect. A car dealer is the last place I would go as they usually sub-contract this work to a panel shop and add a mark-up for their benefit.

The amount of body damage to late-model cars that occurs in relatively minor collisions together with the cost of replacing activated air bags are some of the reasons why insurance premiums are so high for modern cars compared to older vehicles of similar value.
