Hi everyone,
just wanted to hopefully get some feedback on Bluetooth for youe Eos.
I am in the Sydney - Gladesville\Hunters Hill area & was hoping someone may have had experience good or bad with either a BT product or installer?

Ideally I wanted s product that offers similar functionality to that of my BMW - ie: voice activation, steering wheel functionality etc. Its basically fully integrated into the car stereo meaning it displays inbound\outbound calls on the display too.

Tall order?
Possible?
My understanding is that there isn't anything factory optional from VW for this, so there must be Aus products available that are compatible with the Eos - offering similar features hopefully.

Appreciate comments.
Thanks everyone

I must recommend the Parrot 3200 LS Colour... It is brilliant! I have one in my EOS. It mutes the radio and sound comes out the speakers... It's great!
Is this system hiden from view or does it require a dash mounted display? What sort of price does this run at and did you get your dealer to install?

WOuld you mind posting some pics of the system?

Thanks siJ2000!

Thanks siJ2000!

These do look aesthetically pretty good...but I'm wanting something thats free of wires, and add on devices on the dash etc.
Being on a drop top - wouldn't it encourage prying eyes and sticky fingers if they saw it on the dash if the top was down & you had parked?

In Australia there are instant fines if you get caught talking on your cell phone - and "demerit" points off your license. You start with 12 points, and generally most driving offences cost you say 3 demerit points a pop :(

I think if I'm going to do it, Id rather pay a slight premium & have it integrated as much as poss into the car & be free of wires & anything else.

Thanks for the reply though siJ2000. Much appreciated :)

Hey Davey

Having come from a BMW I know exactly how you feel and as far as I have been able to find the simple answer is no :(

I have the VW Dealer fitted option which is a Parrot Kit.

You can answer, mute, adjust the volume, enter discreet mode and end calls using the button on the steering wheel. You can voice dial if your phone has that capability. There is however no caller information displayed on the stereo or MFD. The kit works as advertised and apart from the lack of caller information on screen I have had no problems. the only sign of the kit is a small microphone mounted at the base of the instrument cluster. I have had no complaints of sound quality roof up or down.

Ok, thanks Sydeos....disappointing I guess.

I don't suppose...if I'm waiting on an 2008 build...BT would come as std?
Someone in this forum posted general changes in the 08 build - but I guess you never quite know until its published from the manufacturer themselves. They seemed to be mostly interior changes I think as opposed to electronic.

It would be a total bonus if it were std on the model I'm taking.

You're doing really, really well if you get good quality operation of your Parott kit with the roof down too.
I had an '03 BMW Z4 with after market Nokia BT kit - and it sucked. Big time.
I think I used it once only with the roof down.

Thanks for the advice though as always Sydeos!

Interesting!

Thanks neh321.
It troubles me slightly though - the device on display for prying eyes even with the roof up?

From home to work I have secure, locked parking, but otherwise its like a colleague of mine who said they left their GPS cradle on display in their car, thieves smashed the window & rummaged round looking for the device. Nothing on display = no problem. No temptation.

By the way, your color leather is stunning - contrasts really well with the interior surrounds.

(I think I must be the only Eos - awaiting delivery of - owner, that has Silver Essence + Vienna Beige leather combo!)

True & good lateral thinking siJ2000 ;)

I'm thinking that the angle that the display would face would soak up a heck of a lot of sun glare though.

I tell you what, the new BMW 5 series & X 5's offer a lovely heads up display for this kind of caper - I think Lexus does too.

Never mind, Im sure I'll get the optimum result through this forum! :D

It's always a potential problem, yes, but I put up with it for the convenience!

I always wanted a silver or metallic grey car with red leather so had to go for that combination when I saw it was offered, even though I really promised myself a 'colour' this time around (I've had too many silver cars!)

Very happy with it!

Hi got mine yesterday. Bluetooth factory fit. There is a mike I think just to the left of the clock setting (remember I'm an Aussie we drive on the other side!) and I use a Blackberry. Took about 10 sec to pair, enter code and make a call.

Button on Steering wheel works, radio cuts out on call and even with the top down its quite good either end. Only thing I have to do is terminate the call on the blackberry as well as console.

I have an egrip on the back of the phone so it justs sits on the dash no sliding.

Drove from Melboune to Ballarat and there is no difference to usual problems. Carrier is Optus

Mick,
you mean its a VW installed factory option?!
Or is it another brand - like Parrott Ive seen mentioned in these forums?
Also 1 other question for you...are you using a Blackberry 8800g by any chance ????
I had issues pairing the 8700g with any vehicel running BT- the 8800g seems to be the only one that pairs seemlessly in my current vehicle.

Cheers :D

Hey Mick

I assume you mean the Dealer fitted Blue tooth Kit? Are you saying that you can't end the call by holding the phone button on the steering wheel in until the call is disconnected.........it takes about 3 to 4 sec on my nokia.

In dash bluetooth possible

It can be done with about $300 US hardware investment plus cost to install ...

The result is a totally hidden system that can interface be associated with up to 3 bluetooth phones that uses the VW EOS steering wheel buttons for control and the VW Factory Stereo speakers for the receive side of conversations. There is a little mic that can go in the overhead console between the lights where VW designed a spot for a mic to go if factory bluetooth is offered.

Use Parrot 3000 Bluetooth Kit

= = = = =

Use VW Wiring Harness Adapter

http://www.hfvt.com/content/page/catalog_product/id/98/BWVWS_2.html

= = = = =

Use VW CAN-BUS Adapter to substitue the VW steering wheel control buttons for the Parrot 3000 control head

http://www.hfvt.com/content/page/catalog_product/id/161/SW101C.html

= = = = =

There are other suppliers but I have purchased from this one with good results. I have not yet installed myself yet that is my winter project for my EOS.

There is a VW Vortex Forum post showing a sucessful install with photos and discussion but I can't seem to find the link right now.

There is some forum discussion that 2008 EOS has slightly different CAN-BUS messages for the steering wheel buttons and requires a different firmware load for the CAN-BUS adapter so beware of that.

Good luck

Randy

Hi David,

I have a Blackberry Curve (its silver but has a full Keyboard) got it about a month ago from Optus when my O2 Atom died (I'd never by another O2 but thats another issue) and been happy with it.

Sit in the EOS and it Pairs up no problem. :)

Ordered the vehicle in April. Schedule Build was Aug. Ordered Bluetooth Hands Free 25/7. Works with the three buttons on the steering wheel.

How do I tell if its a Parrot?

Hey Mick

Check the blue tooth paired devices on the phone and see what device it is paired with. Mine pairs with 'Parrot v5.10C' and this is the Dealer fit blue tooth kit that is detailed on the VWA website here -
