Hi,

First post. I'm awaiting my new Eos (Build Wk30, hoping for delivery early Sept!). This will be my first convertible car.

I'm going to need to fit in a lot of camping gear on occasions with 2 adults and one 4 year-old on board. Packing the car to the gills with the roof up on-route to our destination will be the norm as we'll usually be hammering along a motorway/dual carrige way for a few hours until we get there. Then we'll un-pack and cruise around for a few days, hopefully with good weather and the roof down. I have an Audi A2 1.6 FSI sport at the moment, so I'm expecting the Eos to seem spacious! :D

Can anyone let me know the roof-up boot dimensions? Some photos would be great too.

BTW, I currently do 40K miles a year, mainly on a 130 mile/day commute. Has anyone done a high mileage in an Eos yet? How is it standing up?

TIA,
Arty

Hi Arty,

Actually, the trunk inside is quite irregular due to the side wheel wells and the fact that there is an internal lid which segregates the area available when the top is down. So the actual dimensions may be meaningless; however, I do know that the brochure does indicate how many cubic feet are available with top up versus top down.

Cheers,

Hi schoolhousefred,

Thanks for the speedy response, and a fair point.

On the one hand I'll be trying to pack in many differnt things of different sizes, some of which (e.g. sleeping bags & mats, clothes etc) are squishy. All of which helps to makes full use of the available space. On the other hand a few items (e.g. tent poles, collapsable chairs & tables, cooking stove) have some hard dimension so in particular knowing the boot depth (front to back) will be useful. Also, with the internal lid up, what is the height & full width under it?

I'd measure this myself, but every time I go to my local dealer - I didn't purchase my car from them - for some strange reason the boot seems to be full of lid! I'm hoping some kind soul will help me out ;)

Arty.

Hello Again,

Took a couple of minutes to quickly check the measurements. If the internal cover is in the up postion the dimensions of the internal section are:
Front to Back 32"
Side to Side 31"
Height 21 1/2 "
If the cover is lowered (roof is down), then the Height is reduced to 12 1/2"
The above excludes the two little wings on each side, which are are available to stuff things in when the roof is up. If you tried to put poles in and place them in side to side, then you would have a maximum width of 54" available by extending into these wings. Hope this helps.

sounds like you should have bought a Touran :D
i can just hear the converstaion now. 'honest darling we can get everything in the boot' ;) so now you got to come good eh?
seriously i had a c class and a lexus 200 prior to this car and find the boot very accomodating
if you need to squeeze more out of her then you could remove the cover which can be 'worked' around to still lower the roof but you have to be extra careful
also a recent thought i had, why cant you remove the spare wheel and carry tyreweld? is this legal? or better still why dont VW use run flats? i came up with this thought when i suddenly realised that if i got a flat where the hell would i put the alloy?

Thanks everyone, particularly for the measurements.

Hey, that sounds familiar! But I'm playing a long game - The A2 was my wife's choice which kind of puts her on the back foot when she tells me the Eos won't be big enough. :D

On the subject of tyreweld I'm not a big fan. I had my first puncture in 20 years a few weeks ago when I hit a pot hole. The A2 doesn't carry a spare tyre so I tried the repair kit, only to find there was a 1'' split in the inside wall. Unsurprisingly it didn't work and I ended up leaving the car overnight in a field in the middle of Wales. Then, £55 to replace the tyre, £40(!) to replace the Audi repair pack.

PS. I must learn to spell dimensions!

If you have ordered a new EOS then you should have seriously thought about the factory fitted modified rear fender and their tow bar. It is a hell of a job and very expensive to do it retrospectively. If you are an outbound sort wanting to carry a bicycle or trailor tent then think now if there is still time.

When you tow that small trailor, you can put wife, kids and gear in it then drive yourself happy with the top down!:):) But get the roof down before hooking up the trailor!

Hi, mentioning boot, a tyre fitter went into my EOS boot , since then I've had problems with the room opening fully. Is there anything important about the boot area ???
cheers
Mike 1st post.
Have a look in the spare wheel well under the removable boot floor. There's the motor that controls the roof open/close. Check carefully for anything amiss.
