Our brakes squeak really loud. Any one else have this and what do you do about it. The car has about 18 thousand miles on it. But the most important thing is my wife is going crazy with the noise.

I have the same exact model and color even! I have 5600 miles and have the same problem. Have had many posts over it. I had accidently drove the car with the handbrake partially engaged. Oops! Took it to the dealer, admitted what I had done, we had a laugh, and the dealer said they would take care of it.
They charged me $77 us to take the rear wheels off to tell me the rear brakes had 90% pads on them and were fine. They said they had the tech clean them. They stopped making noise for ONE DAY ONLY, and it started all over again. Took her in again and they said that it was normal! I have given up and just drive the car like it is. I have never had a car with so many problems that I bought brand new with so little miles on the clock. I don't know if this thing is going to hold together. Pretty to look at, nice to drive, quality questionable. Let me know how you get on with a fix.

Did the hard stopping drill. It only heated up the brakes and as soon as the brakes had cooled, it started to do it the next day. Hope you have better luck!

squeaky brakes

The soultion is nothing to do with "heating" up the brakes. The problem is caused by the build up of brake dust on the calipers. If you constantly drive under circumstances where you only apply light braking or your journeys are always local you will experience the build up of dust

Has anyone considered having the pads removed and cleaning the mating surfaces of the backs of the pads and the calipers. After that the use of antisqeaking compound or anti squeak shims may also be needed.

Have tried this in the past with limited success, the problem can only be solved permanently by installing "softer" pads. When considering this option, it must be fully realised that there is a substantial decrease in the braking efficiency whenever multiple stops in a short period of time occur. You will also notice that brake pad dust build-up on the wheels will be more pronounced.

Lopaka - you only followed half the suggested procedure; you also have to wash down the calipers/rotors on both sides of each rotor with a hose after they have cooled down to remove the accumulated dust. If the pads are heavily coated with glazed dust, it may take 3 or 4 repetitive treatments to stop the squealing. Once this has been achieved, a couple of hard stops from 50mph each week should keep the squeaks away. It also helps if you make sure you hose out the brakes each time you wash the car.

Thanks for the input. I did the clean down of the pads etc. etc. etc. I don't want to be rude, but please realize this is a brand new car and I should not have to be doing all kinds of fixes myself to correct this problem. The dealer needs to fix it and that is why I paid for a brand new car and the service it should recieve. Brake issues on such a new car are a BIG Dissapointment.
I would not recommend this car to friends till: product improves, or dealer service improves. Very very dissapointed with the whole process.
In the US, this car has recieved poor reliability reviews, and I'm sure with that said, it's resale value is going to be poor.
I don't mean to offend anyone, I just expected better for the price.

Thanks Steff,
I already do that! I just want it fixed by the dealer under warrantee with no drama. I am a working professional with very little time to take care of my baby, let a lone do these do it yourself fixes.

quality and brakes

Thanks Stephb I wonder why I did not think of that. Anyway we love our car and after almost 20 thousand miles it has only been to the dealer one time for a warranty problem and they fixed it in a few hours. It is going in in a few weeks for service and I will ask about the brakes then.
Thank you all for the advice.
