I am not a smoker and therefore have no use for the ashtray behind the gearstick that came with my car (though I would like to keep the 12V supply, if possible). Is there a non-smokers pack or something that replaces the ashtray with an oddment tray?

I'm sure I didn't get an ashtray, it is just a compartment - and I'm a smoker! lol luckily, I didn't want to taint my car by smoking in it and insist on my passengers refraining also.

I keep my ipod plugged in and the space next to the 12v is just big enough for all the wires and my pod itself.

Thanks, but the photo is of the outside only. I would really need to see the inside. Mine has a small removable tray to the left of the 12V socket and incorporates one of those weird little rippled plastic cigarette holder things (sorry for the technical jargon ). Are they all like that, or can you get non-cigarette versions?

That is the hole item and its it the no smokeing one. cos in the uk the smoking one is and extra fr, email the guy he will send you a pic i got the centre silver radio cover from him make him an offerat 2/3rds this price he should accept it. I've had my one out to fit my handfree in. Its the hole tray

In the US Eos we just get a non-removable black plastic compartment with a 12V accessory plug in the compartment. It has a black plastic lid that opens over it.

Im a non smoker too so I didn't get a ashtray i just keep my spare change in that bit with the 12v plug

No one is allowed to smoke in my car.

Pop in to your VW garage. The software they use has great diagrams and their costs are suprisingly low for a German manufacturer. If you lift the gearlever gaiter frame it exposes just 2 screws. These hold the ashtray in place.
Personally I still use mine for odds and ends. Because of the ashtray lid it keeps the car looking tidy and stop prying eyes.
I would keep it.

Me too. I keep my phone charger and office keys in there; useful with a lid so they can't be seen.
