I have the basic radio/CD player in my Eos. It is supposed to play MP3's, it says so right on the player!! Mine won't play burnt CD's!!

I have burned 4 CD's with MP3 files from my computer using Roxio and I also used Windows Media Player. The player will say "wait please" for about 90 seconds and then it ejects the CD and says "CD ERR". Anyone else having this problem? Any suggested fix?

Most in-car players have trouble with multi-session discs. There are three options that you should look for in your software:

1) "no multisession" should be enabled,
2) "Finalize CD" should be enabled, and
3) "Disc-at-once" should be selected as the write method.

Basically, this takes your files and burns them in a single action. At the end, the disc is closed off so that the burner can no longer "see" the disc as a burnable one. By using these functions, you are creating a disc that is as close to a "store bought" one as you can get.

If you still have problems, it may be related to the color of the writable media you are using. (many of the older burnable discs are a darker color than the silver pressed ones) You can now find better quality discs that have a similar coloring to manufactured discs. As a last resort, try and use a different color media. I've tried to simplify the issue here by using "color" but really, it is all based on the reflectiveness of the surface and how it interacts with the laser in the player... that, however, is a discussion for another thread.

Hope this helps.

I took the CD's I burnt into the dealer and had them try them in a car in the showroom. They worked fine. Its a problem with my player, so my car goes in Monday morning. They may have to replace the whole unit.

Well, at least it looks like you have a solution pending! Hope it gets rectified quickly.

If the OP's EOS is as new as the showroom model tried then that suggests the player is faulty. But if his/her player is older, there could be player firmware differences, even though models numbers are the same. In the past I've found the biggest problem with CD/MP3 disc players is down to the length of the title track string (should be Joliett standard), some of the characters used in the title and if the tracks are in a directory hierarchy or not. There can also be an issue with higher MP3 sample rates if used on older players. I've had to use a Windoze re-titling app. to batch rename a bunch of MP3s to simple titles to get tracks to play. Most car infotainment systems are way behind anything you can do on a PC system. The only car systems that do give good file compatibility in audio and video are those Chinese clones based on Linux, just like some PCs. Mine can suck in a usb stick and play most formats.

Try burning a test CD with all tracks 128 kb/s with track names '001', 002,003 etc in the root i.e not in a folder. Finalize the burn and see if that works. Then try creating folders with no more than 8 characters in the folder name (DOS standards!). If that works, make some changes to the filenames and up the sample bit rate to see what its limits are. I doubt you will reach 320Kb/s which needs a fast processor you wouldn't need for reading a CD. They also have limited memory and when you push up the sample rate their internal buffers max out with errors. O.K it looks a bit naff when you want to import smart track titles, but sometimes simple is all an older player will handle.

Good point about the laser head tracking. There have been changes in digital media, although CD's using IR lasers and slower spindle speeds are usually o.k and it is dvd's with much higher data read rates that often have a problem on older players, because the reflectivity of newer writeable media is lower.
