Happy New Year to everyone

Have just picked up a set of 18 Chicago alloys in desperate need of a refurb due too lacquer lifting .

Has anybody got any pics of them just powdered coated silver ? So i can see how they look without factory finish.

Thanks Bob

I've just stuck my curbed Chicago in to a local repairer - he doesn't seem to think it will be a problem restoring it to factory finish. In fact, he's only asking for £40 for the repair.

I'm due to pick it up on Tuesday - I'll let you know how he does.

Thats a good price for a repair bearing in mind the diamond finish. Is the whole wheel going to be refurbed?

A friend of mine has just been quoted £360 for four wheels, or £260 if he wants a standard polish finish and not the diamond finish.

Im very keen to hear how you get on.

Sound like a good price. The cheapest I've seen in my part of the world, is $100 minimum per wheel.

Just picked up the wheel - I'm not overly impressed with the repair but it will do as a spare.

He has just repaired the damaged area that had begun to corrode (where the lacquer was damaged) so the repaired area doesn't have the diamond finish. Can't really tell but I know it's not right.

I don't think he's had one of these before and didn't realise what he was letting himself in for!

In searching for the odd wheel (indeed part) there is one other route you could try. It has to be accepted that for what ever reason from time to time cars get written off, but they have on them many usable parts. There are two outlets on the web www.find-a-part.com and www.findapart.com, who are connected to many different breakers yards round the country. You simply advise them what part you are seeking, they circulate your request and if it is available, the relevant breaker /recovery yard calls you direct.

The price they quote generally includes delivery costs, for larger items you would be wise to collect and look at the condition anyway.

Be careful in that with wheels you ask particularly the condition as clearly you do not want one with impact cracks/damage.

Indeed - and they do turn up on eBay every now and again. I bought a mint condition chicago for under £50 last year, so I now have a spare in case I get attacked by any curbs in the future!

That's a very good idea indeed, I think I will keep my eyes open, like busses when you do not want one they all come along regularly, when you want one, they never come.

Very good idea
