i liked it so much i did it again :D
on the previous eos i had to do top and bottom so this was easier as the newer model has top done already
didnt bother for a awhile but felt it looked odd without it done
i think it gives the car a meaner look and distinguishes it more from the passat, note the blue indicators also which make more of a difference thani originally thought after seeing the wife driving the car towars me the other day.

To be honest I haven't looked that close at my front end  I have a 08' that I would like to do, where did you get your kit at?
its not a kit but lengths of u shape flexible chrome strips
they fit perfectly over the standard black slats and dont require glueing
cost is minimal

i purchased a kit for my eos;

Ebay Item number: 220258770031

Installation was simple, the lengths have to be adjust slightly, but its a matter of pealing the backing tape and sticking it on

I like this look a lot. However, I'm concerned as to how something so inexpensive will hold up long term. Also, I'm wondering how strong the glue is that holds these on. The website says they can be removed later without marring the original black stripe pieces.

My God!!
cant believe someone is now selling what i thought was an original idea of mine done about a year ago!

http://www.vweosclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=636

oh well you snooze you loose :)

those who have already got the top grill factory chromed the bottom half is really simple and can be done without removing the grill but its simple enough to take off as is the top and makes the job a lot easier and you get a better finish(will explain if anyone wants to do it

top is more difficult to fit as there is a lot of cutting on angles to be done(see thread above)

those who cant wait for the ebay item or want to do it themselves should look for the u shaped chrome strip with in built removable edhesive as found on this page for only £3 per metre

http://www.carbuildersolutions.co.uk/rubber_trim.htm

or you can get it from halfords which gave me the original idea when i saw it under the motorcycle acccessories as screen trim last year for £5 per metre(pack)

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_215694_langId_-1_categoryId_129500

or any motorcycle supplies

oh and by the way i wouldnt worry about longevity as it was as good as new when i sold my original eos last month

Pacemaker,
I wouldn't mind some simple instructions on removing the lower grill!
I hit a magpie last November and broke a few of the black plastic grid pieces.
I bought a replacemnt grille but it looked too hard to remove so I left it for another day, or for the service centre.
The breaks are not noticeable but it it's easy to replace ... why not!

sure
remove top grill first, there are two screws under the hood and another two below the chrome section of the top grill which are angled upwards and accessed through the top slat in the bottom grill, then unclip two plastic sprung clips again under the hood, it should then pull off from the top and unclip itself from retainers at the bottom

bottom grill has no screws but four sprung plastic clips at the top, they are just visable through the top slat, if you can get your fingers in you can prise them down and pull the grill forward at the same time, utherwise use a screwdriver to create a gap and in doing so disengage the clips one at a time whilst pulling the grill forward at the top, once all clips are free grill will pull out ( it if stiff but just pull)

those wishing to add the chrome strips should then remove the chrome surround from the bottom grill carefully by disengaging the visable clips. this makes fitting the strips really easy as they can be cut roughly to size then trimmed whilst in place with a stanley knife following the angle of the existing slats

They're BACK!!!

VOLKSWAGEN EOS 07 08 CHROME GRILLE INSERTS VW NEW HOT!

Enter the above string in eBay's search function which will bring up the reoccurring auction for this item ($31 including shipping).

I think they need to change their copy though. Each ad includes the statement that they only have 3 left and will not be getting anymore of them and then, magically they get 3 more.

I think I'm going to take a shot at getting one.

Good shout pacemaker. I bought 3 x Halfords strips and applied them to my lower Grill in approx 5 minutes.

A great improvement to the look of the front, and all acheived for less than £15.

Oh - anybody considering going to Halfords in Cribbs Causeway, Bristol, for their chrome strips should consider going elsewhere - I had the last 3.

how about a pic to see what it looks like on a silver car?

by the way i forgot to metion in this thread that i put a spot of clear laquer over the cut end to prevent any chance of lifting or tarnishing of the chrome

Looking at the above pix, you seem to have done both the upper and lower sections of the grill. The VW grill has chrome slats across the top section only. But you probably know that... :)
