Has anyone come up with a clever place to store the jack and tire iron?

I am a stickler for keeping the trunk (boot :) clean and clear, but I refuse to leave home without a way to change my tire on the fly.

Has anyone discovered a nice place to store the kit so it doesnt flop around in the trunk (even with the velcro strap)?

Thanks

Don't they live inside the spare wheel, under the boot floor? Mine do.

Mine too!

Although when I got mine back from the dealers it looked different but I couldn't say why - would somebody take a picture for me so that I can double check nothing is missing?

Im in the US too - and we definitely have the Styrofoam box taking up a cubic foot of trunk space.

There was a suggestion to take the components out and place them under the trunk mat/board with the spare tire. I'm not sure how that would work. There is no way I would be able to fit the jack down there. With the hydraulic reservoir and the spare tire I’m not even able to fit a set of jumper cables down there.

Is there a different configuration in Europe under that mat?

PS: Doolally – see attached for a fuzzy cell phone shot of the kit.

Ours fits inside the spare wheel, under the bottom board of the boot (trunk!)

We have small spare wheels, maybe you guys have full size ones or something!
nope - i wish we did. My Jetta IV had a full size spare. I should put that in the "things I miss" thread. We have the small spare as well.

I actually recall seeing something about the way the boot/trunk well was stamped at the factory somewhere (bentley manual?). I think there is a difference - but not sure why. I know there is a difference insurance wise about the construction of the bumpers. I wonder if that has something to do with it.

bummer. I want to get that jack kit out of the trunk (boot :)

I'll take a photo tomorrow & post on this thread. I haven''t touched my kit since I took delivery (apart from checking for leaks!).

I put the small parts in a bag and the rest around the spare tire. The floor cover still lays flat, but if I put another item down by the spare, the floor would then be sloping.

The tool box rests on my garage shelf until I get rid of the car (which I don't see myself doing for a long time). As to putting the jack under the tire, I don't see how that's possible IF you want the floor to remain level.

We don't get the box here, just a few loose bits and pieces (the minimum they can get away with!). That's why they fit inside the spare wheel.

John,

It looks like the European spare tire replacement kit is MUCH better designed than the US.

Why did they do that?! Our spare tire kit is in a box that takes up trunk (boot) space.

Very frustrating.

Photo attached of Eos toolkit housed in space saver spare wheel.
Thanks John - did you put that grey ropey thing on yourself or did it all come like that? Don't think mine has that. Also did you have a cover over just the wheel (not the carpet but something else?). I swear something is missing from mine but I couldn't tell you what although it really does look like your one.... !

Hi DLG,
The photo is just as it left the factory as I haven't touched a thing. That "Grey ropey thing" was there when I lifted the lid for the first time. The lid is actually a piece of board covered with a textile material.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards,
John.

From memory, that looks the same as the kit from the Golf (for 16" wheels).
I have the kit for the 17" wheels and although it is similar, it doesn't have the strap.

This is what the 17" emergency spare and replacement kit looks like (Australian version)

Ianmarc,
My Eos has 18" wheels. The spare "Get you home" wheel looks very small for the well in which it sits. The well is a standard size, I suppose, to cater for countries that have to have a regular size spare.

I think the answer has more to to with the size of the tyre and the country requirement to carry a (a) full sized tyre (b) get you home tyre or (c) tyre foam
