Aloha All,
Has anyone been having problems with their inner boot lid movable shelf, metal clips popping off? I drive with the top down almost every day, and you have to make sure that movable shelf is in the down position. Well, the little metal clips that lock the catches to the shelf in place when in the down position simply popped out! I put them back in, but the keep occasionally keep popping out.
Anyone else out there having this happen? Thank goodness I found the little clips to pop them back in. I will bring this up to the dealer when I take the car in. Poor design. VW, I hope your listening?
Still have the windows getting confused and have to walk around car before leaving it parked to make sure all the windows have properly sealed. This car is starting to get on my nerves.
Thanks,
Robert

I had one of my clips come off about two months ago, but I think it was related to The Wife being rough with the lid. I popped it back on and it hasn't come off since.

What do you mean by the windows getting confused? I once put up all of my windows (or at least I thought I did) but came back to the car to see that one of the rear windows was still down a few inches. I attributed it to my simply not holding the button long enough, but maybe I'm having your confused window issue.

This has happened to me 5 or 6 times. When I put it back on I can't remove it myself. But after a time there it is lying on the wheel arch again.
It's always the one on the left where the switch for the cover is.
Told the dealer, not sure if he did anything but its not happened in the last 2 weeks.

Often my driver's side rear passenger window does not fully close when closing the roof - it's almost as if it thinks something is in the way and so the safety feature clicks in. I can then close the window using the window button (twice). It's annoying but I haven't got that annoyed by it that I have taken it back to dealer (yet) - I was going to wait and see if anything else went wrong! It's interesting that you both seem to be having the same problem.

I had one of the clips coming off and the when getting other warranty service done on my Eos I asked the dealer to deal with it. The warranty repair ticket stated that the tech used adhesive to secure the clip to the cover. It has stayed put so far.

You guys are a jinx. My clip on the drivers side fell out today after almost 2 years. I'll try to glue mine in.

Found this on mine as well, put it down to a 'design issue' with this area of the car.

The two piece folding shelf that defines the space you can use with the top down, the metal clips are on the bottom side of the part of the shelf closest to the back of the car. The hold the shelf to the trunk floor by snapping over two pins on each side of the trunk. They also hold it down against a spring loaded contact switch that the Trunk Control Module uses to make sure the folding shelf is in the down position. When the left clip comes out the switch does not make contact and you can't lower your top. It is a pain you know where when that clips comes out!

Happens on mine too :( only on the passenger side though.

Doesn't have any effect on the roof sensor though so not bothered reporting it but will probably mention next time she's in.

Keep track of those clips

Hi all,
Thank you for the valuable information regarding the metal boot clips.

We purchased our Eos through a wholesale auction and when the car was delivered I was surprised to find that the top would not go down. The 'close boot' error message displayed. (I was also suprised that the car passed the post-auction inspection). Thanks to everyone here, I was able to determine that it was a missing clip that kept the top from going down.

Took the car to the local dealer to order a clip. The parts guy did some research and it turns out that you can't buy just a clip (or pair of clips) for the boot. You have to buy the entire boot lid assembly. $200 (thankfully reimbursed by the auction). Then you need to reset the boot-lid (which is covered somewhere else on this site).

So, bottom line is to keep close tabs on those clips and if one falls out to make sure it is back where it belongs and secure.

Happy Driving!

Windows if erratic - 2 issues:

1) battery is weak - have it checked, when its weak, the main current to the switches will not be signaled and your windows might be left lower or w/o the auto up signal

2) phantom operation - window / ignition switch, this is a bad issue, try this and if it happens, you have to replace it - switch to ignition, if the windows are moving up and down in an erratic way, the switch is faulty.

hope it helps, i had these 2 issues and replaced the battery (only after 6 months of new delivery) and the switch change, all covered under warranty.

Yep - my clips come out regularly! It's in the garage at the moment having water leaks repaired (likely to be there til some time in February) and I have asked them to replace the clips.

Clips

My clips have come off a few times since I got the car on July 31, but I just pop them back in (which is, admittedly, annoying). Every time they have come off it has been when I've lifted up the shield, so I just sigh, put the clip somewhere safe, and make a mental note to fix it next time.

I always assumed that the car wouldn't let me put the top down when the clip wasn't there, but I recently found that that's not the case. I can snap the shield down as normal -- not quite as tightly on the left side when the clip isn't there -- and everything works normally for me. I'm planning on addressing this when I get it serviced next, so I'll update if I get better information then.

Boot luggage shelf clips

Wasn't so lucky to find the clip in the boot and had to find a replacement. Luckily VW now supply these clips separately. Attachment has the part number and diagram so you should be able to get your VW dealer to order them in if you've lost one. Cost AUD 5.00.

My clip on the passenger side came out twice. After I put it in the second time, I ran a bead of silicone caulk/sealant around the surface and it seems to have held well (so far, knock wood).

hi there, the passenger side flap is open after closing the roof. I tried to pull back on the metal clip to clip it back in but it doesn’t reach to its spot to put it back. I can’t pull the clip up. It had pressure on it. Please help me here
