I would like to make a suggestion that will benefit prospective and repeat purchasers around the world arising from my experience. I have found it extremely dificult to find a VW dealer who has had a comprehensive range of stock vehicles to show the various colour and trim combinations even after travelling over 2000Km around NSW looking at dealers. I guess the probable combinations we are considering are a popular one [Polar Sea Blue metallic (Eismeer Blue in some markets) or Candy White with Cornsilk Beige leather] and vehicles do not last long on the floor.

It would be a great help if owners could forward a set of high-quality photos [6in x 4in(150mm x 100mm) with a file size equivalent or greater than JPEG 500Kb] of their trim combination for assessment and subsequent posting by a moderator. The photos would need to show both exterior paintwork and interior trim from several angles with good natural light and minimal shadows.

If there isn't an existing administrator/moderator able to take on this responsibility, I will volunteer for this role as I have the software and experience to produce archive quality images. I am a long-standing moderator for an Australian car club forum and know what is involved with this role.

Mine is easy, straight out of the VW brochure.
Black with Individual Pack, Black and Cornsilk Beige 2 tone. Looks great, better in real life than in the brochure. Photos can't convey what the eye and brain "see" in real life.
I can put photos together, need an overcast day as the contrast is too strong in sunlight.

Good Idea

Can I suggest that you index using paint codes like Y4 which is Leonie blue or eismeer blue or polar sea blue and I belive pacific blue depending on which market area you are in, by the way the same goes for trim codes.

I hope a special area is allocated to you and this project.

Regards

Hi Graeme,

Excellent suggestion re the paint codes - would also be useful to list international paint suppliers who can supply to the VW codes [e.g Spies Hecker who have helped me in the past with tints for coach-built UK cars].

From what I can see on the various VW websites, the trim combinations appear to be universal. I would expect any problems/repairs would be rectified by a local motor trimmer rather than purchasing replacement items from VW.

Have had no response yet re setting up the archive.

Hav you purchased yr car silvershadow >? I am also trying to decide on the colour and trim. I am also in NSW, but atm I'm basing my decision on videos people have sent on youtube.. which is not the same as seeing the car in person.... plus,i keep changing my mind about what i like which is not helping either..

I am considering Polar Sea Blue Metalic, Reflex Silver or Deep Black with a Corn Silk beige upholstery [ which unfortunately is the only light trim available in oz.] Any recomendations would be much appreciated....

My car is Midnight Blue (UK market) and Cornsilk Beige, its a fabulous combination. Only comment would be that light colour interior shows the dirt and the dye from blue jeans is almost impossible to get out. If you opt for the light interior you need to keep on top of the cleaning.

i have had 2 black ones so i am biased
first had red second cream. comments were that the cream made the car look more upmarket, but like said it is a nightmare to keep clean wheras the red was very good

My partner now has a MY09 Candy White with Cornsilk Beige TDI DSG Eos which I still haven't driven after 6 months of ownership let alone get it into some locations where I can photograph it in the right conditions :( .

I did see your nominated combinations at various dealers when looking around - beauty is in the eye of the beholder but personally I think the best colour with Cornsilk Beige is Eismeer Blue. The silver and black versions did not stand out when surrounded by other vehicles whereas the Eismeer Blue and Candy White vehicles have a noticeable presence if this is important to you.

I went with Thunder Blue exterior and moon rock grey interior. Main choice for me was that I wanted the exterior to look more seamless....the Thunder blue is so dark that the roof blends in. Some don't realize it is a convertible until you shock them by dropping the top. For a little while, I didn't realize that the roof panel behind the sunroof was actually black....it blends nicely with the dark blue. Moon rock grey leather is pretty easy to maintain.
