I'm being a bit dim but I've just changed the headlight bulbs for two pairs of Osram Nightbreaker bulbs (as read on a thread somewhere).

Thing is I noticed last night that whilst I was lighting up the sides of teh road really well I didn't seem to have much light in fromt of me (unless i put high beam on).

Now I've got myself reaaly confused and don't now whether the bulb above the small parking light should be on when on low beam or whether its just the outside bulb (the one that goes in the round glass bulb) thats on when on low.

Can someone please help me as I can't work out what I've done wrong!

Thanks:confused:

When I changed my stock H7 Low Beam bulbs out for SilverStars, I found that it is easy to get them installed into the bulb holders wrong, so they are sitting a little crooked in the holder instead of flat against the base of the bulb holder. They bind in the crooked position so that they feel solid but since they are crooked the bulb filament is out of position and they don't throw light out the headlight lens like they should.

Pull the H7 bulb out and use a good bright flash light to look at the socket. The bulb will fit flat all the way into the holder if you get in in right.

Same with the H7 high beams. Good luck.

I agree that the bulbs are probably not fitted correctly..... If you want to see what bulbs are for what, drive face on to a reflective surface and select light combinations and you will see what they look like for yourself!

Hi IndividualDSG,

How did you get on with your bulbs? I would be grateful if you would let us know what your opinion of the Nightbreakers is once fitted and working correctly.

Many thanks

My two cents - I upgraded to SilverStars which were an improvement over the VW Factory bulbs, then Advanced Auto Parts put the Silverstar Ultras on sale for $35 a pair so I bought two of them, they are brighter still. So I put the Silverstars in the High Beams and kept the ultras in the low beams. They are both white light, 4500 Kelvin on the Silverstars I think, 5000 Kelvin on the Silverstar ultras.

Still having problems so can't comment on how good they are other than to say they light the sides of the road very well but don't seem to throw any light directly forwards. I'm sure they are fitted correctly so will now haveto try putting the stock ones back in.

High beams good though except i keep needing to use it just to light the road ahead!

I did the exact same thing :) The Ultras are noticeably brighter then the regular silverstars. I'm very happy with them.
