This question is posed at those Eos owners who live in warmer climates than us Brits. Since owning a convertible is new to me, I was pondering the following question:-

In the summer when the sun is really hot (not sure if that ever happens here!) do you normally put the top down or keep it up and slam on the a/c?

PS especially for someone a bit thin on top:eek:

This is our first convertible, so we don't know how it will be when summer gets here and the temps are around 100 F. So far it has been in the 70s and we love it, put the top down a week ago and haven't put it up yet. Wear a hat to keep the sun off the thin spots and out of my eyes. In winter the heater keeps the cockpit comphy with the top down, hope the AC keeps it comfortable in summer heat. Also, this is the first car with leather seats, don't know how it will be when we leave the top down while shopping and then jump in with shorts on : )

I suppose the leather seats could be a problem with shorts. I don't suppose they are treated the same way as the BMW series 3 convertible. Their leather is supposed to keep the surface temperature 20 degrees (C) down from ambient???

Perhaps you can feed back a little later in the year when you get a bit more experience. Which will no doubt be long before us.

Here in Atlanta I will be able to test these issues quite well. Black leather will be a good test for the heat and it can get very warm and humid here. They don't call it Hotlanta for nothing.

Texas is even worse than Atlanta for hot temps and humidity (oh the humidity). I can say that we have already had weather in the 90s and I have had no problem putting the top down and turning up the A/C. suggest if you are "a little thin on top" to just slap on a hat. ;)

I also have black leather and haven't had any problems with heat, of course I park in a parking garage at work and in my garage at the house so can't really give a good opinion on that.

Well Gogg, I have already gotten burned this season in Atlanta, GA (I know Wanda probably has too in TX) but nothing a little of sunblock can't handle and a hat.

I don't care how hot it is, just keep the wind in my face. I have never been one to run the A/C with windows down, but I'm interested to see how it feels with the wind blockers up...

It's a convertible baby... use it! Oh yeah, don't forget the shades

Black leather...ouch!! We chose the Moonrock grey because we thought that it would be cooler on the skin and we liked the combination of Eismeer blue and Moonrock. I did read about the BMW leather being cooler and then I think I saw somewhere that VW used a simular treatment for the Eos.

General opinion is for me to get a hat, shade, switch on the a/c, top down and enjoy the summer. (if and when it arrives here)

Thanks for all your comments, they are appreciated

I have the Moonrock Gray Leatherette, recently here in Las Vegas temps got over 90F with the sun shinning in full glory. I had left the top down while eating, when returning to the car the seats were very hot, I know the top will go up during the dog days of summer when temps reguraly reach over 100F.

While driving the top might go up during daytime hours when real hot, but Vegas at night with temps in the high 90's to over 100F. The top will be down all night.

hot buns anyone

 living the the san joaquin valley we get up over 100 frequently in the summer months. i had a jetta black with black cloth seats. and they even got hot. basically dark attracts and retains heat. my bug was gray with gray leather. and at times in shorts the legs could feel toasted. thus i always used a windshied sun blocker. big help. as for my eos. midnight blue with cornsilk leather. we're coming into our hot season so i'll let you know. but so far, with the top down on a day near 90, the air worked great at my feet. i closed the upper vents. but i drive mostly with the windows down. and yes sunscreen at 60 strength, hat, sunglasses and long sleeve shirt.... one can burn pretty quick in sun and wind. but the top is down and will be every chance i get...:)

I haven't driven the Eos in summer yet, but my previous two cars were also convertibles, and I tended to have the top down more in winter than in summer (fall and spring are the best convertible seasons). That depended on where I was living, of course. When I was in Louisiana I almost never had the top down in July or August. Just too hot and humid. In western Colorado, the temps were more moderate, and I could have the open air experience almost any day of the year. Looking forward to getting back there soon.

Def the suncream, even here in sunny old blightly :D
Already getting more colour than I've had in years - and we've only had topless weather for a week or so! Going to have to keep a stash in the glove box for those diversions I now take so I have longer to spend in the car!

Still wondering why we only get a choice of 2 leathers at a disgusting price!

At the price they were charging I did not think (nor could I stretch to) it would be a good investment so I stuck to the cloth interior. For the same money I could have had a new leather suite in my lounge.
