Corroded Wing Mirrors

5054 Views 9 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  maczero
I was giving my car a bit of a polish at the weekend and noticed the underside of the wing mirrors looked a little tatty on both sides. Worse on drivers side, but clearly something amiss with both.

On closer inspection, it looks like the black plastic coating beneath the indicator was bubbling up a bit, as if the metal beneath was corroding.

Can anybody advise whether this would be covered by the warranty?

I appear to have exactly the same problem. Car is going in for service next week. Will check out warranty with dealer and advise.

Absolutely! I have had both mirrors changed about a year ago under the warranty. I am also expecting my Westwood wheels to be changed tomorrow as they have corroded.

Hope this helps.

Tintin, Is this the 'athletes wheel problem' I put a thread about?
If so can you post a pic of your corrosion to see yours in comparison to mine.

Cheers
Just thought I'd bounce this thread.

Just got my car back from the 20k service and asked them to look at the mirrors for me.

They've agreed that it's corroded and ordered new door mirror units - no questions asked. It would cost about £700 if paying myself - but fortunately covered by warranty.

Check those mirrors folks!
I picked up a 2nd hand EOS yesterday which has the same problem, the part is being replaced under warranty, but is on back order (so I was told...)

regards,

greg
i have had one changed too
having my driver side mirror unit replaced today under warranty when it had 2nd service (24K miles) and I mentioned the corrosion - delivery was 24 hours - no quible and the service charge was £327 including a brake fluid change.
Wing mirrors on my 2008/june eos corroded and black paint/plastic peeling. Is the bodywork warranty valid to cover this?

I've had a weird problem with the plastic covers on the mirrors warping (or more like melting). I've always suspected that the heating element inside the mirror was the cause. VW has replaced them three times and has said they don't believe the cause is the heating element, but something external. I doubt it since I haven't used the defroster since the last time they replaced the mirror caps. Guess what? The problem hasn't occured since.
