Hi all, picked up my eos last weekend and have noticed the seals are starting to dry out. Went to my dealer to buy a bottle of the lubricant (as specified in the manual) and astounded to hear it costs $155 each. Has anyone else brought any and what price did you pay.

Also has anyone lubricated the seals on their car and was it easy?

Paid $83.96 (that's Queensland dollars though :) ) for 30mls on the 16th July 2007. If $155.00 (is that that mexican currency coming into play ?) is what they're charging at your dealership, i could save you some money.......you can buy of me....i would let you have it for say $150.00.... is that a good deal or what.:)

Seriously you probably need to ring around and see if you dealership is having a go at you.

I've lubed my seals (there's a joke in there if i lived in Antartica ;) ) .... pretty easy job....followed instructions on http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3087297
....a little goes a long way. Resist temptation of one drop is good....two drops are twice as good. Once you start applying lube you'll quickly work out the amount and how far a drop goes, particually if you spread it on the paint and glass!

Used my fingers to apply krytox....now have the softest cuticles in Aus!

I am awaiting the arrival of my Eos (hopefully a month or so away), but have asked about Krytox, Im sure the dealer said it would be around $75, thats from Barloworld in Glen Waverley. Do you have any pics of your new Eos, would love to see some if you can post them.

Was going to take some pictures but couldn't find where to plug the USB port in my Box Brownie.

Leigh's pics are as good as any i've seen and as it's so close to his Eos it wouldn't look any different. So go to his site http://s184.photobucket.com/albums/x217/sydeos/ and photoshop
1. Delete exhaust pipes
2. Install "T" on gear lever with + and -
3. Throw a bit of walnut around dash and doors.
oops...nearly forgot....and change lamps in front lights.

Cheers

"To the newer EOS owners, for what this information is worth, there have been numerous threads on this and other forums .... the long and the short of it is that VW have lowered the price of Krytox, a little bottle goes a very long way (about 4 applications or one year), and the stuff really does work. So ..... consensus is "pay the price and apply it regularly, it is very inexpensive insurance

Thanks guys for all your post. Just too give you an update - rung around all the VW dealers in Melbourne and the price varies from $45 to $150 (excl GST). Suggest you ring around the dealers in your state before purchasing.

Hi Gounta, Have you picked up your car yet? l got the krytox from VW South Yarra. If you dont mind, l like to see how the lube process is carried out. Can you let me know and we can work out the logistics to contact each other.

hi there Melbeos, I havent picked up my car yet...not for another few weeks, the dealer arent actually 'lubeing' the car for me they are just providing the krytox, I'll have to do that part myself. There is a great post on this forum though (which came from another vw forum) which shows step by step and which locations to apply the oil, Im going to base it on that.

melbeos & gounta Krytox

hi there melbeos & gounta,
Ive been reading your posts... do you have to apply this Krytox when you first pick up your Eos?
Is it actually a VW prerequisite, or a "must do" from the owners manual?

I was reading about Krytox on the Dupont web site - the developers of this chemical - but am not sure about the necessity in actually using it. I understand what its designed to do but arent sure why it gets a big mention in these forums?

Is it something I should be asking my VW dealer to make sure its done before I collect mine? Or did you guys decide to do this yourself after you take\have taken delivery of your Eos.

If you don't do it, there aren't any warranty issues are there if you don't use this Krytox on the seals?

C'mon - help out a fellow Eos owner - well...awaiting delivery of ;)

Hi DaveyW,
Im going to use the Krytox because many European/UK/USA/Canadian owners seem to have used it and it assits with making sure your car doesnt leak water and also doenst squeak. A few of my friends have convertibles and they have 'squeak' issues. If simply applying some oil a few times a year means I wont have leaks or squeaks then Im going to do it for sure. I believe the Krytox is meant to keep your seals in prime condition, and if you dont use it then the seals dry out and dont 'seal' properly. As far as I know there are no Warranty issues as VW are actually selling Krytox for the purpose of lubeing seals. Apparently if any other products are used you will damage the seals and therefore you would have warranty issues I'd imagine.
Im going to apply the Krytox myself as my dealer has no idea about it really, I had to ask them about the oil and they ordered it in. Given they dont know about it I hate to think how/where they might apply it!

Hi DaveyW, Gounta's reply is pretty much spot on. The aim of the lubricant is to stop the seal from drying out and preventing any chance of water leaks and squeaks. Lubricating the seals is not part of the dealer PDI process nor part of any scheduled maintenance carried out by the dealer. Based on what l've read from the other websites applying lubing the seals is preventative maintenance done maybe 3x per year. l picked up mine about 3 weeks ago and noticed the seals becoming a bit hard (opposed to soft and plyable) so will apply the krytox soon.

this seems to be fake for its price..that's what i think..

what do others think ? does anybody has experience from the specific one ?
You think wrong, ;) it is genuine DuPont Krytox GPL105. :) The reason it's so cheap is that it's bankrupt stock - Rover having gone belly up a few years ago. If you follow this thread, http://www.vweosclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3293, you'll find a number of his satisfied customers. :D
