installed it myself the other night
although it means just changing the stalk it is quite involved and took about 1 1/2 hours
now have to take it to a dealer to get the software to recognise it
as with my post on accessing menu settings this is quite annoying
for instance all cars have the ability for cruise but it is inhibited in the software, by the way the stalk cost £51retail but then again the original probably cost about that anyway, so your paying £270 extra when new for just a software change
dont get me wrong i think cruise is worth the money but i resent paying money when i am not actually getting anything substantial for it
plus it should be standard anyway
same goes for multi function steering wheels people have added these for less money than new as long as you get hold of vag-com

Isn't it £270 factory fit (which i thought was more than wanted to pay as not that bothered about it) but it's £150 after sale price? Latter doesn't include fitting?
yes you are correct
just didnt fancy paying that either :)
they told me that the aftermarket version dosnt acc and slow down via the buttons but they are marked on the new lever so will let you know friday if that works
just pointing out that vw are charging for nothing

The are telling you untruths. I had aftermarket cruise control fitted. £150 all in. Its identical to the factory fit and it works exactly like the factory version. In fact it is exactly the same kit. Why £120 more? buggered if I know. Stalk buttons do work so your dealer is telling you porky pies. The guys who fitted the cruise control also set up all the menu options you talked about in your other post free of charge...locks, seat belt warnings, interior lights etc. No need to pay the dealer or buy all the gear.

About 30 years ago, I paid someone to install cruise control on a TR7 just before I drove it from San Francisco to New York. Somewhere in the middle of the country (maybe 1500 miles into the drive), the magnets flew off the drive shaft and that's the last time it worked.

I don't suppose the new aftermarket cruise control unit include fastening magnets to the drive shaft, but if they do, better make sure they are on there tight.

Just to clarify... Even if you get it after or fit it yourself, it is NOT after market.... As Pacemaker1000 quite correctly states, it is simply a change of stalk and a software enabling. There is simply nothing after market about it!!

Pacemaker, please could you send me the part number for the stalk!!! I want one! ;)

had it recognised today by the ecu (10 secs work) and can now confirm it is exactly the same as the factory fitted option in my previous EOS.

I had mine fitted at the retailer when it arrived, no-one could tell me what the diference was, if any, bar the price! - they even thought it was a mistake. and yes, you can change the speed with the little button on the side, wouldn't be without it!
