This morning I was driving to the gym and as usual put on the cruise control to avoid a speeding ticket. After my work out, I went to use cruise control and it did not engage. I turned the main switch off and back on and it still didn't engage. Stopped, turned the whole car off and restarted. Then the cruise worked. Odd? Anyone else ever experience similar or know if this is a sign of something impending......or is it just the full moon????

On a manual gear box, it could have been the gear enagged was too high for an 'optimal' speed control... like in 4th to cruise at 30kph... this is sort of by design on some cars... My DSG did not have this problem, so far...

I would say it's just the old 'switch off and switch back on again' that often seems to cure electrical gremlins. It generally cures my Parrot Bluetooth Handsfree when it misbehaves!

It's happened to me 2 or 3 times. Always fixed by turning off the ignition. just a gremlin.
I've not told the dealer as I can't reproduce the problem.
I leave my cruise switch permanently in the on position, so I don't think it's anything to do with the switch itself.
Mine does it when the sun shines as well.

You are not alone.
Out of 20 uses of the cruise control it will probably refuse to engage on about 1 attempt. Has done it since new. The cruise control switch has no effect when it will not engage. Only cure is to turn car off and re-start - not possible on the motorway, obviously.
Would guarantee that it is a software bug, as there are others with same issue...
Doesn't matter what gear is selected (manual box).

I've had this happen a few times to me and as stated the way to fix it is to switch the ignition off and it is Ok from then on. Had it into the dealer complaining of this and they could not explain the issue.

Most likley it is a software glitch caused by some comminication error between some sensor or something.

Haven't had this issue with my manual EOS but did have it previously with my manual Golf V (2 years ago).
Had exactly the same symptoms as described in other posts.
Took it to the dealer and was fixed, but can't remember what they did.

This has happened to me once maybe 5 months ago. It resolved itself after restarting the car.

I guess as one other member put it....Electricals Operate Sporadically.

This was my first recognizable glitch. Thanks for the advice/comments.

Same thing has happened to me about five times...told the dealer...could not duplicate, etc. I found the best way to avoid it is to turn off the cruise control when you've stopped driving...in other words, make sure it's off before you start the car, and then engage it when you need it. It's always worked from this initial condition.

Cruise control fault

Haven't posted for a while, but the eos has been in and out of the dealer like a yo yo. Waited 3-4 months to have the corroded wing mirror housings replaced, then the centre display went on the blink, followed by the cruise control not working. Everything was done under warranty, but it was the hassle of taking the vehicle to the dealer twice for each problem. First to inspect and order parts and second time to have the parts fitted. Pretty poor show for a vehicle that we paid £25K for 2 years ago.

Cruise control not engaging is caused by a software issue in the steering module. The same issue is present on Mk5 Golf, Jetta, etc...

The cure is to take it to dealer and get them to update steering wheel module software.
VW have issued a Technical Bulletin to cover the issue.
Since mine's been updated the cruise control always engages.

I have no end of trouble with my cruise control too and it seems to be hit and miss whether it works or not.

Unfortunately my dealer can't find a fault because, needless to say, it works perfectly whenever they test it...

What is the Technical Bulletin code number?

I know this is related to the cruise control but I had the other day something similiar, the compass on the MFD wasn't displaying so I did the same thing, shut off the engine and restarted and it came back just fine.
