Owned EOS for nearly year and washed it yesterday with hosepipe (as always do) and just noticed today the boot carpet is damp

Could this be over zealous use of hosepipe or is this the start of problems?

Would welcome thoughts / comments

thanks

My carpet was damp and there is a leak as I haven't washed the car for months (my bad!). It could be over zealous use but let the carpet dry out then check after a bit of rain. Could well be a leak.

Did you stick the roof down at all after washing it? There have been reports of the roofs 'drain tubes' emptying themselves into the boot, even though the roof itself looks dry.

Worth lifting the carpet too to see if there's any water sitting in the floor well of the spare tyre. If it's a proper leak you may well have a puddle in there.

Thanks

I did not lower the roof and have taken carpet out to dry - only half the carpet / board damp (drivers) so could be me and the hose pipe

Checked the spare wheel and no pool of water there

How can you check the "drain tubes"

Problem with a hose is that it points sideways and upwards and throws water against the seals the wrong way... Rain always comes from the sky, so unless it is a monsoon, it can leak when washing even if not leaking when hosing...

Hi all,

I have had my Eos (loving it by the way) for about 2 months now (although it's a 57 plate) and also have a similar problem - i.e. water in the boot.

The leak seems to be coming in from the back left corner of the lower section (where the bare welded metal is if you lift the carpet) and the carpet / wood board soak it into the boot, although mine happens in the rain as well as when washing it!

Have got my Krytox (got twice the amount for virtually the same price as the dealers by getting it direct from gbrtech) and am just waiting for a dry day to apply it. If that doesn't work, guess I'm off to the dealers for a long wait, load of excuses, and a Polo or Fox as a courtesy car! - what a treat!

However, before I go to the dealers (if the Krytox doesn't work) would be interested to know where the drain tubes are that some people on the forum have said might be to blame so I can investigate them!

Many thanks

Have applied the Krytox this morning and with the likelihood of snow, I should know if it's worked by the morning - although after actually applying it and realising that the seals were quite pliable anyway, not sure that this is the problem, so I suspect I'll be phoning the local dealers tomorrow! Will post as soon as I know for certain!!!

Krytox has certainly made the roof quieter, although as suspected, hasn't solved the leak into the boot. Once the snow had melted the same puddle lay in the boot and soaking into the carpet.

Well, not the weather for a convertible at the moment anyway, I'm sure the fox/polo courtesy car will be an 'interesting' change. Just hope i can get it booked in and returned before the sunnier days arrive!

Have not phoned the dealers yet as I've found some tech bulletins on vwvortex about leaks / blocked drains etc. so intend on having a little look myself before trusting anyone else. I'll use the diagrams and instructions listed in the bulletin and try not to break anything / make anything worse!

However, not sure what to think now about the Krytox. Before it only leaked in the back left of the boot. This morning there was quite a bit of water (after the snow) in the back corners of both sides of the boot!!!! That's right, the Krytox application seems to have made a new leak (if that's possible) or more likely I haven't applied it properly! I suppose it didn't help that I used it in freezing temperatures (over the following days quite a large amount of it appears to be running down the windows). So I can assume that very little was actually absorbed into the seals themselves.

Anyway, I have the luxury of a week off week in a weeks time (an advantage of working in a school!) so I will have a proper look during the day then, and try to see where the water is getting in!

Thanks for all the help from those who replied on the forum / pm and I will post again as soon as I have any interesting / relevant updates, be they self solved, dealer solved or more likely 'oh well, it'll stop raining and be summer soon'

The outcome so far is:
1) The boot is still letting water in on a regular basis! - Anything more than a light shower and the carpet is wet from the back corners of the lower shelf and gradually this soaks forward!
2) The rear passenger carpet I noticed was soaked a few weeks ago. After drying it out thoroughly (I thought / hoped this was a one off!) I waited to see what happened the next time it rained. With the heavy rain on Sunday night it was wet again on Monday morning!
3) Water is collecting inside the bodywork where the roof 'arms' store when the roof is down. I read on another post that it is this water that is flowing into the boot when I drive (however, the boot is often wet first thing in the morning before I have gone anywhere).
4) The car is now booked in at the local dealers for a week at the end of this month to be tested for water ingress (to be fair to the dealer, it could have been sooner but I need a courtesy car).

Will post back as soon as it's been in with the results - hopefully more successfully than Doolallygirl has had with hers!

Thanks ;)

Be warned that if you do need new carpets at all there is at least a month backlog for some reason - I'm guessing a lot of people are requiring re-carpeting! lol ;) :p

This is exactly what happened to me. Maybe not quite so bad, but symptoms are the same.

My car was booked in for 3 days for initial investigations, but I'm just entering week number 3. Today I'm told they have fitted new seals and it's now undergoing a 14 hour water test, as instructed by VW. This involved them running water on to the car all night, and will then strip the car back again tomorrow to ensure no water has got in.

I hope they're not on a water meter.

Daisy is in again having found the front passenger footwell carpet soaking wet :( I was told that a consignment of back order carpets has been despatched from Germany and my dealer is expecting to have it by Monday, so fingers crossed everyone.

Just to make you sick, my courtesy car this time is an 09 Golf Sport TSI (with a red I), the dealers have probably had to register some vehicles in order to achieve targets so have replaced all their courtesy cars in the process - I'm not complaining it only had 9 miles on the clock when I got it on Monday! Sorry :p

ps so far so good with the previous boot leak though.

Told my dealer of your 14 hour water test and the woman laughed at me (like I'm the stupid one!) and said that she couldn't send John out with a hose to stand there fore 14 hours, it wasn't possible! What a prat!

As for your courtesy car Scooby I am very jealous and very angry

DLG,
My dealer had no courtesy car to lend me as all theirs (9 cars) were out & I would have to wait at least 2 weeks to get one. At their expense, they hired me one from Europcar for 3 days while my oil leak was fixed. It was a 58 reg Golf 1.9 TDI. Quite quick but, compared with the Eos, very noisy. Don't know if it had the Common Rail (CR) engine or not. It had 10k on the clock & hire cars are usually hammered so may well have been due for a service. In the end, I was really pleased to get my Eos back.
