I know I saw a thread with someone who had an issue with this problem, but since I can't find it I am making this update thread.

So I also have this problem with my trunk relocking as soon as you pop it via the key fob or the release button on the dash.

The tech was in the catch mechanism for some time yesterday (I was getting my 20k service) trying to figure why the motor would recatch the lid so easily. Turns out that this is a common problem and the spring holding the trunk lid looses tension quite easily on our vehicles. My Eos is less than an year old and this has be an increasingly annoying problem probably within 9 months of ownership.

The senior mechanic came to me and said that for the Eos they have had to order a small rod (abt 1/8 inch long) to fit into the assembly to hold the lock apart unless you press down on the lid to catch the latch. He said you would never know it is there and it wouldn't make the lid any harder to close; it would just keep it from relocking under it's own weight.

This is a warranty item and I am having it installed probably early next week. I will be sure to report on the efficacy of the rod and if it works well maybe others should consider having it installed just to avoid the seemingly eventual problem you may encounter.

oh, and if anyone has read my other recent post I got a tube of krytox from an independent audi / VW repair shop for $25 for 30ml. Not a bad price from what I have been hearing. I think I probably only had to use 10ml worth to do the entire roof assembly and the creaking has stopped! horray!

Think it was my thread you are referring to. I had the problem when the car was quite new (3 months old) and it took the dealer some weeks to fix it (of course it would never do it whilst at the dealers, just as soon as I drove around the corner; I ended up taking the dealer home with me just so he could see it do it!!).

It was eventually fixed by adjusting it to the top of its range and it was OK for a year but then started to do it again last month. This time I told the dealer what to do and they fixed it at the first attempt. Funny thing is though, the popping noise now when you release it via the switch or the keyfob is at least 4 times as loud as it was before... No matter, at least now it remains unlocked until you've been in the boot and got your things!

I'd like to know the part number of that rod though if you could maybe find it out?

I'll be sure to get all the info when I go to have it installed. Hopefully it is an actual part and not something rigged.

I wonder if your loud popping is the adjustment causing the lid to pull from the catch violently as if the lid is constantly pulling, and the catch just lets it go?

Have you noticed any wear marks on the latch underneath the lid by any chance?

It seems I have come to be pretty untrusting of my dealer and they prefer a quick fix than the likey more time consuming correct fix. I am not a big fan of quantity over quality - hence my VW purchase.

It's just the sort of noise that would make so it could be the answer. Will have to keep my eye on it for excessive wear.

Our car has the locking trunk problem. I'll have to check, but it seems like I finally discovered that if passenger door was locked, and I used the trunk release on the drivers door, the trunk would want to relock before I could get to it. I tried several times one day with different procuders when I was in the garage, because it did not relock every time. Of course you don't want it relocking at all, but there seemed to be a way it did not do it.
If it is just a weight issue, it should relock(nearlly) every time.

Gang - Time Out - This Problem Happens After The Car Passes The Speed Needed To Trigger The Auto Door Lock. You Must Hit The Unlock Button On The Driver Door Twice As You Would To Unlock The Passenger Door - That Will Allow The Trunk To Stay Unlocked After Pulling The Release Lever In The Driver Door - I Agree It Is A Pain But Is Works Try It - The Car Wants To Make Sure You Really Want To Get In There And Didn't Make A Mistake.

My doors don't auto-lock at any speed! They don't auto-lock at all.

Thanks for the info that works a treat. Once door open is pressed twice, the book door release used the boot stays open. Even if you close it the VW handle reopens it again and again.

I was hoping I was not the only one who did not know the trick. Thanks for the support Simon. However I think there are a lot of forum users who did not know either but just havn't owned up yet, (check out the other boot lock thread).

I believe the german thought process on this issue is they do not want folks to be able to accidentally unlock the trunk on the road. Being forced to use the unlock after the auto-lock activates is a safe guard. Not sure what would happen if you try to lower or raise the roof with the truck lid open. That could be part of the concern. However, I'm not willing to experiment. Has any out there been through this? Perhaps the roof mechanisum will not activate unless the trunk is locked. Now I'm streaching it.

You cannot operate the roof with the boot/trunk lid open.
You will see the car outline on the MFD showing that the lid is open.
I don't think it matters whether the boot/trunk is locked or not!

It just bongs and tells you the bootlid is open on the instrument panel; just like it does if you are too close to a wall for instance!

I unticked one door opening on the screen & boot latch stays open.
I tried opening & closing it about 5 times works fine now.
