Anyone here experiencing delays of delivery? I have waited 14 weeks already. Was told it would probably be 16 instead. Now I find by requesting information that the car won't even arrive in Australia till late august and it will be well after that before I can take delivery. Not one courtesy call from vw to let me know any of this. I have found out thud info by always having to ring the dealer myself. Has anyone else had similar experiences?

bit of a different scenario for me Markp - i am currently waiting for an Eos on the lease scheme through work, was initially told that it would be beginning of July when i ordered it end May, only to be told few days later that it would be September! telephoned the Lease company who have been told that it wont be with the dealers until late August therefore i cannot take delivery until mid September ..... what the hell are VW playing at?

well it seems there is light at the end of the tunnel. Received a call from the dealer yesterday to say that the car will arrive in Australia in early august and that i should have it by the end of August. Bit late but at least i am being told something, and also it is not as late as some people in this forum have been saying they have waited. I suppose i should be thankful for that. Still it doesn't excuse any delays whatsoever. Volkswagon have a lot to answer for in this part of customer service. The sales pitch and phone discussions have been fine. NOt complaining about the dealership just the VW company in its poor organisation of getting cars to buyers within a reasonable time frame. 14 weeks minimum is not good enough - from comparing with other companies i understand a more appropriate timeframe should be about 6 to 8 weeks.

Delivery lead time is a combination of the popularity of the vehicle, the manufacturers capacity to produce and the subsuppliers capacity to produce.

With the current economic climate, a lot of manufacturers have scaled back their capacity to reduce costs - but have been caught out by an upswing in demand. Additionally, they may have a single sub supplier running behind, which can either slow them down totally, or limit certain extras or models.

If I'm informed correctly, there is also the issue of dedicated production runs for certain markets.

When we ordered our car on 30 December, 2008, the delivery window was "early April to late May", depending on when there'd be a run for Australia.

Our dealer (who I developed a very good relationship with) informed us once the Eos was on the ship, and I tracked it from there using the VIN.

Arrived in Melbourne late April (even drove down to Williamstown on a rather cold and wet Sunday night to take pictures of the boat), and was delivered on 06 May.

Definitely worth the wait, even if it had been end of May.

I can feel your pain, but hang in there - you'll simply be closer to "top down" weather, and that's where the fun is!!

Well Geoffa - you certainly are informed about the process. As i'm sure dealers and VW would be too - why keep this information only on tap after people buy the car. I repeatedly asked before signing up if there would be delays because of the current climate as you put it and was informed that it wouldn't be the case. While you give reasons for delays - my point is they shouldn't be happening - 'çurrent climate' or not!! 'Current situation' is an excuse for poor management and forsight.
Having said all that - i am still pleased with the dealer I have been negotiating with and am looking forward to the cars arrival in australia in early august as the next step in this tiresome and unprofessional process.

Everything comes to those who wait - we waited 5 months from the order to delivery for the reasons outlined by drbass and geoffa1. I suspect you have encountered the classic car salesman who will say anything to get a sale rather than being honest.

The Eos is largely built to customer orders given the typical buyer does not want unnecessary or unwanted options that are usually included in cars ordered for floor stock by a dealer. You have the privilege of getting a custom-built car rather than the dealers concept of what you are likely to accept.

The trade-off is quick delivery against getting what you want - the choice is simple as far as I am concerned.

I find it hard to believe that you guys happily accepted a 5 or six month wait. You are making me sound as if i am impatient. On the contrary - if i knew I had a possible five or six month wait in the first place then I wouldn't be here making what obviously appear to you to be inane and almost stupid comments about professional standards. You seem to think it is par for the course and that you are getting something special. Just a little reminder here we are talking about an EOS which is a bottom of the range convertible even with all extras. Compared to others it is not very expensive at all. I wonder how long owners of those more expensive cars have to wait to get their special versions. Is it 6 months like some poor people in this forum have waited. I wonder!

That all sounds rather scathing - not meant to be - just a bit of a wake up call for people considering ordering and thinking that a professional approach to meeting deadlines will be followed - that they will get a car within a given time frame. HA! Enjoy the wait everyone.

One question silvershadow - were you informed that your car would take five months from the first time you ordered the car? - or was it somewhere along the process as I suspect?

Makp,

None even mentioned "happily" with regards to the delivery times ;) . I wasn't happy about it but I we had two choices:
1) Accept to buy a car already in Australia which is "nearly" what we wanted, except for the engine (PD vs. common rail) and the "entertainment system".
2) Get exactly what we wanted, and accept that it will take time.

You probably guessed from my earlier response what we did.

No, the Eos is not the most expensive car around but for us it's still a fair bit of money. Happy to compromise with regards to time!!

As already mentioned, we were given a time frame in which to expect delivery of the car. We ended up smack-bang in the middle of it which for me is a glass half full situation.

I have to second silvershadow here: Overpromise, underdeliver still seems to be the way to go with most car salespeople. We got lucky, I suppose.

Anyway, enough ranting. You WILL get the car, and as written previously, you won't have to wait too long for the top down weather to arrive. Enjoy the car, and looking forward to seeing you at the cruise (provided you're in Melbourne, and geoffa is making sure he's doing the right thing with his finger.

Michael

Perhaps these delays are one of the penalties of living in Oz (and I thought there were only advantages of living there!)

Delays are not so long of course here in Europe. My dealer kept me informed of exactly what week the car would be built and it was built that week; then he advised when it would arrive in the UK and it did; then he advised when it would arrive at the dealership and it arrived on that day!

It took about 3 months from order to build then 4/6 weeks to get through to the dealer.

For what its worth, I got my Eos in a couple of weeks.

All dealers order in stock based on that they think the paying public will want.

If not already sold, all other dealers have access to what other dealers have.

Figure out what you want, get dealer 1 to search and find out what is the closest that is available. Hopefully it is just what you want - in my case it was.

Start to get dealers to quote you, setting one off against the next. They can all see this car just sitting there, waiting for the right buyer, all they have to do is swap a car they have for the the one you want.

At dealer 3 or 4, you have them on the bones of their bums, and you know you have the best deal available - thats when you start to screw them on ipod connection, wind breaker, or any other option you want and you know they make a good margin on.

Gee, from here I could write a book Steven King would be proud of, but I guess you all get the drift - it is still a buyers market, and if you have the cash and can be as bit flexible - and are a bit of a bastard - by golly you can have some fun

thanks for the responses everyone. Í will try not to rave on any more about my concerns and make an effort to give some more positive thoughts. Am off to QLD for a few days - for a few days break. Will be back here to let everyone know when the dealer next contacts me - and of course what he says.

Wish mine had come that quickly!
32 weeks (less 1 day) from order to delivery.

16 weeks from order to build (diesels were not due for build until start of 2008 model year - mine was one of the first - June 25 2007).
5 weeks waiting to be shipped.
6 weeks to get to Melbourne.
3 weeks to dealer in Adelaide.
2 weeks to me.

If you take the initial 16 weeks out of the equation, then the remaining 16 weeks may seem reasonable!

I understand the lead time on some coachbuilt luxury cars [Bentley etc] can be 2 or 3 years for models in high demand.

Our salesman was spot on with his delivery prediction which we obtained before placing the order.

"Everything comes to those who wait" - some just have to wait longer than others :D .

As i have continually implied if not said - I dont hold the salesman responsible at all. Nor should any of you who read this! To be a little clearer - he and i looked up the information supplied by volkswagon to him as to shipping, arrival in australia and delivery date. While I had not heard anything from him until last week he did then inform me that the ship holding the car is on its way to australia, giving me revised schedule dates as given to him by Volkswagon. It was very clear and remains so that Volkswagon have delayed the process - nothing whatsoever to do with the saleman or his pitch. The process is obviously delayed for reasons set out so clearly by Geoffa. My point remains - no delays should EVER be tolerated. But enough said - Queensland beckons.

The wait was worth it!

I ordered mine on 4th July 2006 - about 6 months before they were due for release in Australia - I thought I might be in the first shipment - alas no. I took delivery on 21st June 2007. I think it was in the third batch to arrive in Australia.

And Yes, I took a picture of it on the dock in Fremantle - just to annoy my family.

It does not seem all that long to wait now - but it sure did at the time. Still love driving to work with the roof down on a cold clear winter morning - with the seat heaters on of course.

The wait was worth it!

I ordered mine about 4 weeks ago and apparently it is being built next week and an estimated delivery of early October. I understand the grumble that started this thread though. It's not the wait, although shorter would be nice, but the lack of follow up. I have ordered 2 Volkswagens, a Caddy Maxi for work as well, from the same dealer and the only info I get is when I contact them. If you received a weekly, or so, update it would at least make you feel that you are not forgotten. In this day of email and such a short email on a regular basis can't be that hard. Anyway roll on spring, can't wait for my first top down run through the beautiful Adelaide Hills on a sunny spring day.:)
