My EOS 2.0T did 5000 miles service in Santa Monica VW, about $13 labor and total $73 out of the door.

I just did the 10,000 miles service at Garden Grove VW in California USA, they charge me $123 for labor, that is after 10% AAA discount. It cost me about $198 before 10% AAA discount to get out of the door. Both delar charge $40 for the oil but labor charge is $13 v.s. $123 USD...

Did I just got F**ked by Garden Grove VW? ( I said thank you when I got out of the door)

How much you paid for 10,000 miles service?
All the VW delar charge the same for their service?

 :(

On the 2009 in the U.S. the scheduled services are covered but the warranty is only 3 yr 35K. 2008 and earlier they are charging around $140.00 for a 10K check in our area. $70.00 for just oil change. The synthetic oil is expensive but worth it. You are entitled to an estimate prior to the work, and a full description of the services they performed after. I recommend always asking for an estimate before, and a full break down after, if you do not understand the charges, ask. It is their job to supply, and help you understand the invoice. I had to wait for a 1/2 hr for the manager to try to come up with justification for 10K service on our 08 EOS. He could not justify it by detail of work and stated that it was VW dealer manual recommendation. I know enough about the services performed and said if he could justify every item I would pay for it. After trying for an additional 1/2 hr he reduce the amount. Each dealer is going to be different, and I guess it depends on what kind of person you are. I can be a real $%$ when I know they are trying to rip me off.

I would say not. There is the VW recommended schedule and the dealers schedule some based on making some extra money and some based on history of needed services. They generally base the labor on a book of times for each procedure against the prevailing hourly rate based on location then add in such things as cleanup and materials. You can shop around but probably won't find that much difference in prices.

Yes it is common knowledge in the world of customer services that a satisfied customer will tell few people how good a dealer is, but a disatisfied customer will go out of their way to make sure as many as possible are aware of a bad experience.

Good on you, short sightedness on behalf of some dealers. It costs a dealer far more to get a new customer, than it does to satisfy an existing one.

Everyone needs to put service costs into perspective.

Eos cost how much? The service costs are what very small percentage of that cost?

Every obvious that persons complaining about service costs have never added up the cost of doing business and providing a service. How many dealers are raking in large profits, most are just surviving if they are lucky. Just read the annual reports of any publically listed company with vehicle dealerships.

so $800 USD for cleaning a throttle body on a mazda protege is barely surviving? i would normally charge maybe $35 to clean it...a little carb cleaner and an old tooth brush does wonders...

I did 2nd service on my Eos myself at home and here was my time and materials:

Replace cabin air filter: $12 materials, 15 min.
Replace oil filter, change oil with Mobil 1 synthetic: $35 materials, 30 min.
Check fluids, inspect brakes: 15 min.
Check and rotate tires: 30 min.
Visual inspection under car and of engine compartment: 5 min.
Pull DTC fault codes using VAG-COM: 10 min.

So materials for 2nd service should be no more than $75 at a dealer, at their marked up prices vs. what I pay on-line and on sale at my local Advance Auto Parts store.

So, labor should be about 2 hours, at standard VW shop rates this would be around $175, so worst case it should not be no more than $ 250 all together.

Any dealer that tells you that you need more work done, without some basis after first doing the visual inspections and pulling DTCs from the car during the service visit, I would write them off as looking out for their own bottom line rather than you as their customer.

You might want to report them to VW using the toll free customer care number there is a small chance that VW might try to help you get part of your money back to keep you a satified VW owner.

Warranty covers service?

Just picked up my new 2010 Eos a couple of days ago - sweet!

One of the things the dealer told me was that the warranty covered _everything_ for the first 3 years/36k miles.

Now I'm reading the messages above and wondering if I misunderstood or was lied to.

Are you folks saying that the scheduled maintenance costs within the warranty period are _not_ covered?

No worries - I'm assuming you're in the U.S., so your 2010 Eos is covered by VW's 3yr/36K "Carefree Maintenance Plan", just like our 2009 Eos.

VW link here: http://www.vw.com/myvw/carefree/en/us/

We just had the 10K maintenance done for free at the dealer, although it doesn't involve a whole heck of a lot. Once our car is out of the freebie maintenance period, I'll be doing everything myself. Oil changes certainly are a breeze.

I'm guessing the OP from this old thread had an '08 model.

Anyone contemplating a purchase of any vehicle needs to be dilligent. With the Internet, it's very easy to find out and ascertain what servicing will cost for the "ownership experience"-- goes for a boat, and RV or a VW. Part of that process includes finding a place to get service at competitive rates, including non-dealership service departments.

When I bought my EOS (pre owned) I had free servicing for three years thrown in which probably saved me £400.00 over two years. When i purchased my new Golf the free servicing deal had ended, but for a one of payment £99.00 I get three services at no extra cost (except wear and tear items.) Mick
