I wanted to know from those of you that ordered an Eos from an Aussie dealer, did you take your previous car to them as a trade & if so was it a decent price or is the consensus that it was best left sold privately?

Why am I asking?
I got a really good deal on the Eos price.
It would be totally hassle free for me to give it to the dealer & be done with it - BUT I may miss out on an extra $1-$2k if I sell it privately.
I cant be without a car & the trade option seems my best option - but I don't want to get screwed on the trade $$ from a dealer.

Does anyone have any VW trade in tips or experiences they want to share?

Thanks everyone:D

Good evening Davey.
I traded in a 2yo Golf TDI Trendline manual for $10k less than I paid ($32k).
Probably could have got $2k more selling it privately, but couldn't be bothered with the hassle.
As for a deal on the EOS, there was none.
Since there is only 1 dealer in Adelaide, there was nowhere else to go.
Anyway, lifes too short to worry about saving a few (thousand) dollars!

DaveyW. Not a trade in in Oz obviously, but as you know I traded in the mini for the EOS. They offered me £10K (I knew I'd get more private but didn't want the hassle). Said I'd let them know, then rang two other VW dealers and asked them what they'd offer me for mini. One said £10500 the other said £11K. Got their names and nbrs. went back to my dealer next day and showed him what they had offered and who to confirm with and he immediately said 'ok we will match the £11K'. Simple ! two fone calls got me extra £1K. Worth a try. Good Luck Gary

Thanks lanmarc & skidoo - Im really hoping the dealer will do the right thing & give me a decent trade. Its totally hassle free as you say lanmarc.

I am a bit concerned about it as I did get a good price on the Eos - and I was thinking in order for them to maximize their margin, they may "penalize" me by decreasing their trade in offer on my current car. :(

I think your idea is probably going to be a winner for me skidoo - offer it up for a few dealers in Sydney + the VW dealer & see who's offer is best.
A colleague of mine is interested in my current car - but I dont like that idea , I always think, what happens if something went wrong with it, it may sour the relationship...

Hi Davey, I didn't trade my previous car (1999 VT Commodore) but now I wish I did as I'm now trying to sell it privately...which is a bit of a hassle having to be available so people can inspect the car, etc. I don't think I'll get too more for the private sale since the car is 7 yrs old.

The only deal I got was $1,500 off. Oh, the dealer accidently tinted my windows before the handover ....shame that ;-)

Did you guys trade at VW dealer

Ive always found the process of trading in a car a case of smoke and mirrors. The only price that matters is the CHANGEOVER price. The dealer can say and or do anything they like with the paperwork, so long as you agree that the changeover price is correct.

While the dealer may admit guilt, what comphensation have you asked for?

When I got my EOS dealer offered me $3000 less than what I got from another local car yard that deals in buying and selling cars.

I tried to sell private to get more money but had so many time wasters calling so just gave up and sold to the car yard.
