Whilst on a nice long drive from Birmingham back "daan saaf" I experienced this rather annoying distortion from the drivers' side speakers.

It was almost like the cone of the speakers had gone. The distortion was most noticable on what I think were the lower to mid-range frequences. I took note of the tracks causing the problem so I could demonstrate the problem to the dealer.

I decided to go into the VW dealer the next day (the Monday) but the problem didn't show itself! I cranked the volume up higher than what it was whilst driving back on the Sunday but the problem wouldn't show itself!

I'm wondering if there is some loose cabling or something.

Anyhone else had this?

Cheers

No, I haven't experienced this. But one thing I did find out recently reading through the handbook (sad, I know) was about GALA. Do you know about this? It auto adjusts the volume depending on road speed (higher speed = higher volume). The extent of the adjustment is controlled from the SETUP menu, choosing GALA (low number = narrower band of adjustment, high number = much more adjustment). It occurred to me that even if you cranked the volume up when stationery at the dealer this may still not have been as loud as the GALA adjusted volume if you were travelling at motorway speeds. Hope this helps...

Yep, I know about GALA and it wasn't anything to do with that from what I could tell.

It wasn't just whilst I was at the dealer... Whilst driving into work on the motorway it wasn't doing it.

'tis always the way... something goes a bit wrong then fixes itself!

I have noticed something "similar". Once in a great while, while listening to a CD, the base will become very "enriched"...almost as though someone suddenly dropped a 12" sub into my trunk! If I adjust the volume, it magically disappears and does not re-occur as much as I might try to mimic the occurrence. I don't know if this is the same issue you are or have experienced, I never took it into the dealer since I can't make it occur on-demand! This has happened three or four times in the 11-months I have owned my Eos.

If you do a search at VW Vortex, a number of owners have characterized this as "bass boost". There is a TSB on the issue and the dealer just loads correcective software to resolve it.

I had that update and so far no reoccurences of the bass issue. I did end up with a new clock display on the radio.
