Have had ongoing problems with my 2007 Eos for many months. After speaking to dealer today and arranged an appointment to discuss where I go from hear have been told that even if they put me in another Eos they could not guarantee that it would not leak and I must accept it is a convertible with many moving parts and rubbers and could always have water engress and will not meet the standards I expect. I am confused as you do not hear that Audi, Saab, Peugeot have similar problems. The problem I have is that I really do like the car and do not want anything else. Any comments would be appreciated.

Yes, an 09 no leaks. They can not guarantee no leaks, however you have to hold them to a comitment that they stand behind the cars they sell. No you do not have to accept that it is a convertible and many moving parts. Be fair and only call a leak that leaks when mother nature is in control. Not car washes ext.
Our 08 leaked when it sat in the rain. There was a gap between the main seal and the passenger window. When it would rain, it would get the inside of the car wet. Not acceptable, and they could not fix it. So replacement car was offered. Good luck.

I may be tempting fate here but - touch wood - my Eos is leak proof so far (apart from an oil leak). The car is never garaged & sits out on the road in all weathers. I've only had it from new since December 12th last year but we've had some pretty grim weather down here in the South West & so far she has remained bone dry. Yesterday, we had severe gales in Devon with torrential rain which didn't stop all day but still not a drop inside when I checked this morning, including the spare wheel well.
I may well be lucky in that I purchased the car after they had sorted the seal problems. The dealer advised that they had not seen an Eos in the workshop for leak problems for about 9 months.
Hope you get yours sorted.

My partner's MY09 Eos went through a torrential sub-tropical thunderstorm with high updrafts and rain like a "horizontal waterfall" yesterday afternoon and a check this morning did not reveal any water penetration.

It is my understanding VW did modify the body seals as part of the MY09 specification.

I admit there are many postings on this site concerned with leaks, but most of the thread are comments/suggestions/replies from well meaning Eos owners (most of them extolling the virtues of this magical potion called Krytox). If you had the time to scan through all of the threads you would I bet actually find it is only half a dozen (perhaps even less) of our Eos colleagues who are experiencing a "leak" problem. You must also bear in mind there are only round 2000 members on this site, and it is only a few of this number with the problem, taking all this into account it is a very very small portion of the numbers of Eos sales round the world.

I have a 2009 Black Individual TDI about 7 months old, I have no creaks, no banging, no leaks. Perhaps (as John_F advises too) this is tempting fate, but the pleasures of the car far out weight the threats of "leaks". I must admit had I seen this site before I ordered my car I do not think I would have, the negativity would have put me off too, but it was ordered, about a week from delivery and the deposit etc paid so we went through with it. Plus the fact 5 years ago I worked for VW UK for 13 years and find the VW range more than acceptable against its market competitors.

As for not hearing about other cars, I work for one of the competitor manufaturers now who have a twin top in their range, only yesterday when leaving work did I see in the tech centre one with a hose pipe set up and trained on the roof and whilst not an everyday occurance, its not the first time I had seen that.

Step back take a balanced view and then make a decision.

I agree... It is not a fundamental issue by any means... It is a very rare occurance.

If the seals are lubricated, there is no reason why it shoujld leak unless there is a blockage in one of the drain pipes.

I have an 07 and its also fine.

Mine was built in March 08, and so far no leaks.

Admittedly, we are in a drought, and not allowed to wash our own cars, so it doesn't see a lot of water, but I have put it through car washes a number of times with no sign of a leak.

Mine was leak free for it's first 2 years, but is currently in for a minor leak. They are replacing a few seals, so I guess there can be some movement or damage to existing seals to cause problems?

It's an Oct 06 model, which lives outside in the UK weather. I lube about 3-4 times a year.

Still love the car and wouldn't change it.

12 months old and not a leak. The dealer has lubricated the seals once and I haven't touched them. :D

Picked up the car in Dec '08 from a non-franchised dealer (hopefully this won't affect things if / when I get round to taking it in!) Originally Nov '07 registration.

Water in the boot has been an ongoing problem since purchase, but hesitant to take to the dealers as they seem (from this and other websites) to be completely incompetent and I will be without it for weeks while they 'investigate', before telling me its the seal round the lights or fob me off with some other excuse. To be honest at the moment I can put up with it until I can investigate it further (using tech bulletins' from other sites and the useful tips found here I think it could be something to do with the drains being blocked). Have krytoxed the seals but this hasn't solved the problem.

Also, after about a month I noticed a really bad smell on the passengers side. After blaming the missus (and getting slapped) I found that the rear passenger carpet was absolutely soaked - literally dripping once I removed the mats. I soaked up what I could with towels and then dried the rest with a hair dryer. For the next few weeks I funnelled the hot air from the vents to that floor and it's now stopped smelling and lost the damp feel! As mentioned have krytoxed since so hopefully that was a problem I solved through that, as we've had some bad rain since and the carpet is completely dry (touch wood)!

It's a shame as everything else about the car I love, and that's before the summer and driving with the top down. Such a pity that there appear to be so many with problems and dealers that are unable/incapable of sorting them out!

Bought mine new in May 08 and had a few small problems with leaks. After that it went in to have the windows adjusted and it was Krytoxed by the dealer at the same time and touch wood no problems since despite driving through many a downpour!

I've had mine two years this month; no leaks into the cabin but recently discovered water in the boot and the boot floor/spare wheel cover in green with mould underneath. Dealer is taking it in in two weeks when they have a courtesy car available.

Cheers,
Pete.

My '08 is now 16 months. As far as I know, no leaks period. I've never done anything with the seals. I do keep it in the garage when I'm not driving it, so it's not exposed to a driving rain storm while I sleep.
