Hi guys,

I've the standard steering wheel (no buttons) and I would like to have the multifunction one fitted, I also have the 2 pieces multifunction display.

There is anybody there with this change done?

Thanks & Regards.

Think this question has been asked before on this forum so you could search for the thread. Have a feeling that answer was that it's not possible...
I don´t believe it cannot be done. I've read some stuff about this matter but I didn't understand completly.

It seems that the main problem is at the ECU/Module/whatever black box that is below the steering wheel that need to be one specific VW part number in order to work and I'm no sure what number is and then must be activated the MFSW parameter with VAG-COM.

I didn't understand if the half display is compatible with MFSW or must be also changed to the full display.

Thanks & Regards

I believe these replies are incorrect. I have had it done. When I ordered my wifes car I decided to give the standard EOS MFSW a miss because it was naff. What we really wanted was the flat bottom VR32/GTi version - a much better wheel. Its straight forward to do provided you get someone who knows what they are doing. Took 30 minutes to change, works perfectly - including paddles and looks great. Let me know if you want any more info - I can send you a picture if you want. The kids got the standard wheel for their play car - all its fit for.
Let me know if I understand what you wrote. You bought your wifes's EOS without the MFSW ...standard wheel ok? no buttons on the wheel ...then you ask someone ...VW garage ? ...to install the MFSW from the R32/GTI version ...excelent choice! And is working. Is this correct? All the buttons are working? up and dow volume, telephone calls and so on?

Your wife's EOS has multifunction display full or the half one? I'm not sure MFSW works with the half display.

I'll apreciate all information possible even if you can speak with the guys had done your retrofit asking if with my specifications is possible to do that. Mine are quite simple ...standard steering wheel with half multifunction display.

Please check carefully as I'm almost sure that is necessary to change the module/black box under the steering wheel and actived some parameters with VAG-COM.

Thanks & Regards.

all correct. it was fitted by VAG techs but not at a garage. all works except the phone - I have a company phone not a vw fitment. and yes I believe they changed the block under the steering wheel. The car has the half display. Yes they had the kit to reset the parameters - they reset a number of others things - eg door locking when above 10mph etc.
Many many thanks for your info. Well, half display and R32 MFSW is wonderful!!!

Are you seeing info from cd tracks or radio stations on the half display?

Could you please ask for the part number from the block under the steering wheel for the MFSW.

Thanks & Regards.

This conversion is possible and very straight forward. All that is required is to fit the mfsw and have J527 (steering coloum ecu) coded so it knows one is fitted approx 1/2 hr :)
Yes, straight forward however the problem is having all the buttons working, usually only the volume buttons works.

I take the ETKA 7.0 (Europe) software and get the part numbers for this change:

- MFSW p/n 1Q0 419 091 A or 3C0 419 091 L (Golf V GTI – 1 K0 419 091 NA / Golf V R32 - 1 K0 419 091 BH) I'm sure this is not so important;

- MFSW Airbag Harness p/n 1K0 971 584 C . this one is very important;

- MFSW Control Module p/n 1K0 953 549 AK (Must used with colector ring 1K0 959 653 C) - Very very important.

And of course VAG.COM to change the parameters in Address 16: Steering Wheel.

To get a full job - Dash Panel (with full display - MFA plus) p/n 1Q0 920 873 A or 1Q0 920 863 A

I found something else ...there are 2 types of cruise control and these retrofit can mess with the cruise control or not? Do you know something about it?

Thanks.

Just to inform I retrofited one from Golf V GTI.

I needed to change mfsw module under the steering wheel - 1K0953549BK - some VAG-COM changes and module learning and everything working.

Left volume buttons work fine, "Star" button is doing radio Mute, "Phone" button done nothing, rights up/down arrons change between board computer options, "OK" button change between board computer 1 and 2, above button done nothing.

As I have half display I don't seem the radio stations or cd tracks in display only at radio.

Now, I'm in process of finding a way to get the right up/down arrows to change radio stations and cd tracks.
