Further to my previous comment.....the DSG transmission is a Direct Shift Gearbox with AUTOMATIC dual clutches (and NO torque converter) that disengage when the vehicle stops moving to reduce heat build-up and frictional wear.....then they re-engage shortly after you take your foot off the brake pedal. The vehicle rolls backwards or forwards during that very short time between brake release, clutch re-engagement, and acceleration.

Contrarily....the Passat has a more typical automatic transmission WITH torque converter that has a "selectronic", "manual" shifting mode.....that allows the use of a "hill assist" or "rollback prevention" switch.

Hi,

There is no hill start assist... FYI, this is not a gearbox fuction, it is a function of the braking system. For example the Smart Cars have this. When you take your foot off the foot brake, it holds the brakes on for 0.7 seconds to allow you time to get your foot onto the accelerator.... The Smart has this as it is also an automated manual.
