I would very much appreciate it if EOS owners with Dynaudio would try something for me:

Listen to a CD at a decently loud volume and then fully fade the sound to the rear. What do you get?

When doing this in our EOS the sound all but disappears in comparison to when faded to the mid-way point, ie evenly distributed between front and back speakers.

I sat in the back earlier today with my missus driving. With the top down you can barely hear the system and with the top up it all comes from the front with the system having to be turned up very loud to be able to hear it at a half decent volume in the back.

I would be very grateful if you could let me know if this is normal behaviour as I have the car booked in on Tuesday so could mention it to the dealer then.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I don't have a Dynaudio system, but I have not read of this problem in the various forums. I have read issues regarding sudden bass "booming". Still, if you aren't satisfied with the sound, I would have the dealer address it no matter what.
Just my 2 cents.

Hi Gavin,

Tried mine driving home from work tonight. Faded to rear and still had reasonable sound, but obviously not as loud as the fronts. Oh, and I had the top down.

Regards,

Ian

Gavster - I've also tried this for you. It isn't as loud from the back, but then just look at where most of the speakers are and where the sound is designed to come from/go to. Nonetheless it sounded reasonable, so I think you've got a possible problem!

I still can't work out how the sound is better with the roof down though!!!

Stillluvvinit!!

Hey Gavin

Have a look at the following link -

http://www.dynaudio.com/eng/auto/eos.php

and

http://www.dynaudio.com/eng/auto/eos/3.htm

The Dynaudio system is totally different in the amplifier and speaker set-up to the normal audio system. The system only has tweeters and woofers in the back and no mid range so when you fade to the rear you will lose the midrange output entirely. The system also uses DSP to modify the sound stage for the roof up or down to maximise the performance in both situations. Having said that there should still be some output from the rear but the system is designed to provide the best performance with the balance and fader set to neutral as the Digital Signal Processor is doing all the fine tuning for you.

When seated in the rear with the fader and balance set to neutral the sound level is consistent in all four seats. That is the normal output.
