I would agree with you that IF you trade your car in to a dealer, they will mostly disregard your listed extras.

Therefore, unless there is a need for speed in selling your car, you should try to list it yourself. There must be someone who WOULD pay more for your custom additions.

I don't know your location, but if you are in a "sales tax" state, it might pay to trade the car in IF there is a sales tax offset. In my state, we have a 9% tax. So, if I were to buy a car priced at $40,000 and I were to trade in a car worth $20,000, I would only pay sales tax on $20,000 or $1,800 instead of $3,600. Under these conditions, I would have to sell my trade-in for $21,800 to come out even with a private sale IF I were to buy a $40,000 replacement. While different pricing deals would have different break even points, the sales tax offset has to be considered.

In my state, it's difficult because of the tax offset to come out ahead with a private sale IF the car is going to be replaced with another vehicle.

I'm curious as to how you would remove the red leather interior. With the air bags in the seats, that would seem a little difficult.

Hi Eos Up

Its easy to get the seats out if you know what your doing, and in regards to the airbags coming out. They never came out when I took mine out nor did the airbag light show up.

I would sell my car privately but with the recent economic downfalls no one really has the money to spend on luxurious items so its a waste of time advertising the car. As I have recently watched 3/4 Eos's in the local car trader and the listed price seems to decrease but the car doesnt seem to go unfortunately.

Kind Regards

I would have thought the red leather seats an excellent selling point; you will not get back what you paid for them but it will make selling the car much easier with them.

It could be difficult selling a car without any seats, as no-one wants the hassle of replacing them - unless of course you replace them yourself with standard seats, but then that's an outlay and you may have difficulty selling the seats separately..

Hi All

As im thinking of getting rid of my car soon, I thought it'd be best to sell the extras individually as dealerships dont really apperciate them. So make me a reasonable offer and I can see what can be done.
Extras include:
  • Full Electric Red Leather Interior
  • 18" Chicago Alloy Wheels With Good Sport Contact Thread
  • Genuine Wind Deflector
  • MFD 2 Sat Nav
  • Genuine VW Rubber Mats
  • Genuine VW Summer Mats

Thank You
How much for the sat nav and mats (separately;) )?

I have carpet mats at the moment which are great as in the wet weather I was finding my feet slipped off the pedals quite easily so they are great for taking off the excess. And it took me ages to find them! So not sure I want to replace just yet but haven't got SatNav and haven't got a clue about the one you have at the mo - can you give me a quick low down on what it does/has/what it would bring to my car if I were to have it? Can PM me if you would prefer not to bother other car fanatics with the intricates! :D

I will get what I paid for them as I never paid the outragious costs what dealers charge for leather seats and bought them from elsewhere. Also with the conversations I had with trade in dealers they didnt really pay attention to the leathers so unless its a private sale it doesnt make a difference.

The car will have seats when it is sold as it will have the original cloth interior and im sure another Eos Owner out there without leathers would like them :)

You're right that they don't pay any attention when you mention the leather seats. But wait until you tell them it hasn't! "Oh dear, sir, cars like this MUST have leather to have any value used. Sorry but it's only worth 10p with a cloth interior"!!

That may be your opinion but if you've already been marked up for your car without leather interior you'd understand. Also, where you get your numerical "10p!" figures from I don't know... :)

10p is a slight exaggeration. Even I have never actually only been offered 10p for my car..

Either you are a car dealer yourself or else your dealings with them have been limited. Or maybe I'm just a cynic.

In all honesty I don't think it will make that much difference to sell the car with cloth interior. My original (*and quite useless*) dealer said that it would cost over a grand to retro-fit the leather as he only had a cloth interior Eos for sale on the forecourt at the time and he said that if I bought it, it really wouldn't be worth putting the leather in as it wouldn't add much to the sale value.

But saying that, I didn't buy that Eos purely *BECAUSE* it didn't have leather interior despite it having other gadgets and gizmos that I don't have as in my opinion, like has been said above, a car like this SHOULD have leather interior.

Ho hum, just thought I'd get my opinion out there and shall now await angry responses from all parties!!! :D

No angry responses because you're right!
What I meant initially was that it makes selling an upmarket car much easier if it has leather, irrespective of whether the dealers or guides say you get your outlay back. It's much easier for a dealer or buyer to talk the value down 'because it doesn't have leather' because they know it's going to be that much harder for them to sell on.

You don't have a Drivers door in Silver Essence do you?

My wife decided to park her moped in mine last night :(
Yes I do!
Trouble is it's fixed to my car and I need it to get in and out through!

Joking aside - very bad luck. They should be able to repair it back to as good as new though?

Thanks. I'm sure it'll be good as new when fixed. May even get them to fix up the bumper I scraped back in the summer.

Well, while the paint's in the pot and all that

Sorry for hijacking PLAYA's thread, but this damage I mentioned above to the bottom of my drivers door can't be repaired and needs a "New Door" to fix apparently. I assume they mean a new door skin.

Seems a little over the top to me?
