Thanks, Moods. Interesting. I was pretty sure my problem is electrical, thinking that a fuel problem would behave differently -- would crank but not start for example. how did anyone diagnose the problems and decide what to replace?

MY07 has never had this problem, but then U.K/EU cars don't have charcoal filters and the evap. system. Some USA owners report they get 'bad gas' or have found the charcoal flters getting flooded which stops the tank breathing? Bad gas apparently comes from stations that get low volume throughput and have dirty tanks. There's often negative comments for Supermarket gas stations, but I use them because their tanks are regularly emptied and filled with fresh gas.

If you crank an engine with a fuel injector sitting temporarily outside the engine, or partly crack open a fuel injector union whilst taking special care and precautions, you will soon find out if the fuel system is working. Same with the spark plugs. But try the spark plug test first, replace it and don't do both at the same time!!

If there's no fuel, or a spark at the right time the engine won't fire, start, or run. If you can't do your own testing and get more information, you can make a dozen guesses, one of them may be right and the others wrong.

My 2008 EOS has now shut down twice while driving in the last 10 days, once on the highway at 60 MPH or so and once last week while sitting at a red light on the way to and a block from your dealership. In both cases, the shutdown was sudden and no engine warning lights came on. Dash gages all went dark but some electronics continued to work -- windows, turn signals, no power steering or brakes. After some time (5 minutes the first time and about 20 or so minutes the second) it restarted. The second time was a block from the dealer and once I got it there, they ran all the scans and tests, and found nothing, no codes or anything else wrong. This is obviously a serious safety issue and the car is really undriveable. I read some earlier posts about this and wonder if anyone has any recent info or ideas. I love the car otherwise.

did you ever figure it out? I just bought a 08 eos and was great and then driving in city and it goes stone dead and leaves me on side of road needing to be towed home. I started with fuel pump relay $15 and hopped.. replacing fuel filter (was going to do that anyway, $55. Will check fuel pump next. Hope i don't have a big paperweight on my hands. any help would be greatly appreciated.

[email protected] or 956-456-1169 or will check this thread again. Thanks for any help. Rick Newton, Houston TX

I should have added that it cranks but doesn't fire up. doesn't even act like it wants too! sadly

If you had used decent diagnostics or got a dealer to do it, diagnostics could have been used to measure real time fuel pressure, even just cranking on the starter. Instead you're guessing, replacing parts and have no evidence they are causing your problem. With what you have already paid out with no solution, you could have either got a workshop to find the problem or buy OBDII or vcds diagnostics, but you would have to learn how to get the most from it? If you solve two problems yourself and reset the service reminder after a DIY service it pays for itself.

not sure if its the same symptoms but my car stalled out on me while driving. The battery light came on, no check engine light. got it towed to the shop and apparently it was just the turbo charge pipe disconnected. After reinstalled it worked perfect.

I had the same symptoms and also smelled something burning. The smell was very short lived. (Like only a few seconds.) When your turbo charger pipe disconnected, did you smell anything burning?
