You may just need to get it reset, but you should get it plugged into a diag machine to see what the codes are....

You should also check your oil often. Especially on a new car. Even more especially a new car with a turbo!

Here is more of the same old. The dealer says to bring the car in every 5,000 miles. VW says it's normal to use up 1 quart of oil per 1,000 miles. That means there may be no oil when the 5,000 miles oil change is due. Car may also no longer run. As Simon says check the oil often even if there is no turbo. VW has a reputation on this side of the pond as an oil eater. No smoke, but the oil level still goes down. As for me, I keep a quart of oil in the trunk and check the level in the engine often. I use a quart of oil about every 4500 miles.

Hi Pacemaker,

My apologies in advance for the following and I trust you are not offended as I couldn't resist posting the following item - I am certain this did not apply to you:

I had my engine warning light come on as well. Since I had the Revo software installed it really concerned me. I set my software back to stock and took the car back to the dealer. The dealer told me I had two recall issues that had not been addressed. One involved a low presure fuel sensor which caused the light. This also caused a very sight delay in pedal response I had attributed to Revo (wrong). The recall updates fixed the problems. Back to runing program 2 for 93 octane. Fun Fun Fun

taking car to dealer tomorrow for a check
he informs me that after the 'oil' warning comes on it can take a further 50 miles for it to go back out
we will see

This may be the case. The vehicle stores so many bad readings (DTC's) for any issue prior to activating the Service Engine as a hard DTC fail. The computer must then see enough good DTC readings to turn it off. Each DTC has its own limit. They oil may check less frequently.

My low oil warning light came on a couple of weeks ago so I stopped at the next garage and put a litre in. The light didn't come back on when I restarted the car.

Think the dealer doesn't know what he's talking about (what a surprise!)

I thought this thread was for service engine light? This is different than Oil warning light. In general it is not good for a dealer to make any statement about a warning light being nothing to worry about without connecting to the computer for further diagnostics.

Doh!
feel a bit dumb now
turns out it wasnt the oil light just a coincidence and would you believe it i pulled up outside the garage with the engine warning light on and by the time the mechanic got in it went out
anyway turned out to be stored in memory as a sensor fault on the exhaust
