I'm trying to decide which version to get, both 1.4 (160PS) engines, but can someone confirm to me what the differences between the SE and the Sport mean to a driver?

The Sport is 15mm lowered and I assume has a harder suspension. This means it will go round corners faster without so much roll? But it won't be as good in town and going over speed bumps etc?

Is there any difference in the body shape, i.e. does the sport have wider wheel arches for wider tyres?

If I'm driving mainly in town and want a bit of comfort over harsh performance should I opt for the SE, or is the Sport all round better?

Any learned opinion appreciated. Thanks!

The sport is around a £1000 dearer but has 18" wheels which may be an issue to you in terms of feeling the bumps although folks on this forum dont seem to have a problem with them. I think the luxury pack and extra carpets is standard on the sport as well.
Interested to know what you decide as I have been considering changing my 2.O turbo (28k miles now) for a new 1.4 160PS :)
Cheers!

Sport .... definately

i too was undecided about which one to get, looked at what the S, the SE and the Sport had to offer and decided i would opt for the Sport ... better spec all round i feel ... have it on order but have had an email last monday saying that it wont be ready for delivery until 3rd September so i'm gutted. see a few in our town and i am trly envious, found myself approaching a total stranger when he pulled up behind me in a local car wash and asking him all about his Eos and how he found it, he too had the sport and said its the best car he's ever owned. i was drooling as he drove out the car wash and put the roof down, all the time smiling at me, mouthing ..... three months will seem like three years ......

When I got my car the standard car rode on 16 inch wheels but the Sport got 17 inch and lowered suspension. It looks much better in my opinion and the ride seems to be unaffected.

The Chicagos are 18 inch wheels but are always an option and think you can't have lowered suspension and Chicagos?

Maybe my info is out of date and the Sport now gets 18 inch wheels?

I went for the SE as I didn't think it was worth the extra cost for the few bits more (tight wad !!!)

I've attached a snippet of the price list that shows the difference between the SE and Sport (pdf was too big). You get get the full pricelist file from the VW site.

The SE is a nice addition compared to the basic model. You get decent size wheels and some nice extra bits. Suits me.

Extra bits on the Sport are similar to the ones I got in 06 except the wheels are 18 inch Chicagos now whereas I only got 17 inchers. Also I think it included a stereo upgrade then.

Hi,

I have an Individual (58/09 spec), which had some lux things but also was lowered and had teh 18" Chicagos. The handling is very good and I don't bottom out going over the speedbumps. Engine is 2.0 l TSI with 6-speed.

I think it is a good mix. Actually, I think it is a stunning mix and I am still behaving like a kid after 10 months...

Make your decisions on power but the lower chassis and 18" is not a badly thought out combination!

Cheers
