Hi, all. Found this forum today having ordered my Eos yesterday at the local VW garage. Unbelievably, I had literally 150 TDI models to choose from (colour combos, trim, etc.), but there were NO petrol cars at all available in the whole of France! I had wanted the TFSI, but that would have meant a 3-month wait, by which time the summer would be practically over.

Like most people over here, I always buy diesel, but I fancied a change for my first cabriolet and would you believe there were none to be had, so I'll be taking delivery of a silver TDI in about 10 days' time...

My principal reason for not wanting the TDI was the diesel clatter (especially roof down) - can existing owners reassure me on this one?

I look forward to contributing to the forum as and when :)

Hi I have the 2.0 TDI and its really quiet for a diesel so dont worry about it :) there is the obvious start up noise when its cold other than that you dont really notice its a diesel.

Hope you have fun in your new car

Ditto everything that Steph said.
Only problem with diesel is the price of the fuel!
Still, the TDI is cheaper (than the 2.0T) and more economical.

Agreed as well, but not quite as much fun I'm afraid, the turbo petrol is fantastic, just not as frugal.

Im not sure what the petrol turbo is like but if its anything to go by my tdi it still puts a smile on my face when i put my foot down! i can easily sprint uphill doing 120mph and even be getting mercedes moving out of my way whoo!

The diesel prices are getting stupid now the most expensive i've seen it so far is 132.9! its a shame they wont run on bio diesel or i would of been tempted. :(

But yeah Snobbers is brilliant and never fails to put a smile on my face :)

Steph xx

p.s maybe have a test drive of both a petrol and a diesel and see which one you prefer? :)

Thanks for all your replies, guys. It's good to hear the diesel is not TOO noisy ;) Diesel prices have gone up about 40% in the last 18 months over here in France and we're now up to about €1.40, or £1.10 per litre :(
