Have been doing some reading too... Look like the Mods4Cars one (Wilhelmy-it.de) is the one to get if I was going to get one... I just am not sure I want to install a mod right now!..

I am very interested, but also unsure if i would like to add a mod just yet. Do let us know if you get this mod.

Simon ,,,, you should find lots of dialog here and in other forums on the pros and cons. Big con is a concern that it could void your warranty. Not definite but s possibility.

I've fitted the smarttop to my new EOS Individual (2008). I did not use the powertaps, instead I soldered the wires from the mod to needles and then slid them in to the ground and +12 wires. If I have to remove the mod, it won't be easy to see the pinprick holes left in the cables (vs. the big holes that powertaps leave).
Plastic screws in the boot are slightly visibly dented the first time you remove them with a torx driver though. VW guys may know you've been busy ;)

Also, worth noting the Smarttop is not currently 100% compatible with the 2008 EOS. Remote close does not work. Everything else does. Company is working on a fix. My unit will be upgraded free when done. Shame, I'll have to strip out the boot again to re-install it.

I heard there was an issue with the 2008 controller.... Mine's a 2007, so would be ok..... I would solder into the power wires and put fused female blades on them. Those could be used for a fridge if you wanted (nothing to do with any MOD!) ;)

FYI, the reason they are getting messed up is that they are 3mm Allen Key fittings, not TORX! ;)

Anyway, if you do mess them up, just get new ones.. They are about 50p each and the part number, I believe, is W701 867 299 (you then have to choose the colour)... If you get the colour wrong, just get 20 of them for a tenner and change the whole lot so the colour matches!!! :)

Thanks. I just went with what the manual said. It said expect some resistance. They did look like allen key screws, but none of my keys fitted.
To get replacements do I just go to the parts counter at a VW dealer or is there an online retailer you would recommend?

A question. Why does the smarttop advertise parking assist mirror function and lock doors on driving when the car does this by default?

Hi,

Only the Individual and the 3.2V6 does that... The ordinary ones don't!

Yeah, any VW parts shop in a dealer will be able to order them in (they probably won't have any/many in stock)...

Lock doors on driving is standard default on all French EOS so should be available on UK cars. Mine lock at about 5kph.:)
