Unlocked car whilst covered in early-morning frost. Window attempted to drop but wouldn't because frozen. When frost thawed a couple of hours later, window dropped to usual position - and then stayed there. Only possible to put it up on the button from inside, but as soon as door opened to get out again, the window dropped again! VW dealer took car in and said it is an "engine managment" problem and that they have "re-set" it. No parts needed. No charge (car still in warranty anyway). Bit of a pain having to leave car with window partly down for a few days until fixed.

What worries me is that this is bound to happen again. Surely the Eos is used in countries which have far worse conditions that we get in the mild south of England. Is this a common problem? Is there a way to prevent it happening? The dealer was not able to offer any advice.

Yup, happened to me. Thinking about it, there's not a lot one can do, as the windows don't have framees.

I manage the situation by defrosting/desnowing before I unlock it. Not difficult, just needs a diiferent routine!

Others on this site use covers to reduce the icing. Lubricants must by their nature reduce the likelihood too.

Do you agree my fellow Eos drivers?

I had a similar problem last year.

I think I read somewhere that you can actually reset the windows yourself by using the key in the drivers door and holding it the locking position for a few seconds.

Worked for me, anyway.

Now, just as Jaydee says, I de-ice the edges of the windows before unlocking. If that doesn't do the trick, I gently prize the door open and move the window down a little using the window switch before closing the door.

I had that problem this morning.
The windows didn't come down, so I took the landcruiser into work.
When I got home, I unlocked the Eos, and the window came down an inch & just stayed there.
I tried locking & unlocking, but it didn't go up.
So I sat in the car & tried the button on the inside - it was fine.

I think this happens because water (ice melting) seaps into the electrics through the sides of the windows.

Best way, is to keep the scraper outside of your car, so u can scrape the frost off the windows. Try avoid using water.

My Scirocco does this as well (pillarless doors). Having looked at it closely when frozen up, it seems that it is not the seal at the top of the window which is stuck, but the rubber along the bottom of the window, which stops the window dropping down. I got stuck out the car a couple of times in the recent frosts, and then found a solution.

Get a jug a tepid water (Not Boiling!!!!), and slowly pour it across the seal at the base of the windows, and then also across the top. This melts the frost enough to allow the windows to drop down from the seals and let you in. Haven't had a problem since.
