I'm amazed that no one else is complaining about how bad the EOS is in this freezing weather.

It keeps freezing up and I have problems getting inside. Due to the windows not dropping down.
It was frozen over the other day so I got the de-icer out and managed to open the drivers door. Started the engine up to thaw and warm her up, tried to get out and the windows wouldnt drop to allow me to get out, I was trapped inside for a while.
My husband found it rather funny.

I think this is a very bad design issue. No one highlights these problems when your in the garage thinking about buying one.
Infact the brochure had a lovely picture of one driving though the snow and mountains with the roof off.
Maybe they should insert a comment that if you want to drive your EOS in the snow and very cold weather then maybe you may need to leave the top off over nignt other wise the snow will have thawed by the time you manage to get the door open!!!!
I have got a top cover. But it's sods law, as soon as I put it on the weather changes and starts to rain.

The whole reason for us having this car was due to the fact thats its hard top for winter and open top for the summer.

Its a problem that all frameless windows have. After two winters in mine I have found that the best plan is spray the seals around the windows with de-icer, then do the window and the bottom edge ensuring that the deicer gets into the door cavity. Leave for a few minutes to work and you should not get the problem unless its exceptionally cold. <-5 centigrade). If passengers are also expected do that window as well, drop that window a cm or two to stop the 'nip and tuck' mechanism working when opening and closing the door. (You know what passengers are like). Once they are in shut the windows.

"I'm amazed that no one else is complaining about how bad the EOS is in this freezing weather."

I experienced this once and never since, I purchased a top cover and use it when the forcast is ice / frost over night, which at the moment seems to be every night. I posted a picture of it fitted to my new pride and joy back in November, look for the thread "ice".

I purchased mine off Ebay, the product was listed "Outdor Waterproof Car Top Cover", it cost me round £40. From memory I think they come in small, medium and large, I got the medium and it fits a treat.

I admit there are cheaper, I think Argos does one under £20, I even saw one at about £9 on the web, but I worked on the principle you pays for what you get and I wanted a waterproof one, all the others I was able to find only said water resistant.

Works for me, I would recommend consideration for others if you are experiencing this problem. If frozen seals are forced open you run the risk of splitting them / tearing them, I thought this was worth the invetment.

I admit to one slight gripe, when you take if off in the morning be careful where you store it, the ice which has formed on the cover melts and you get quite a pool of water, I left it on the carpet in the hall and my other half was not too pleased.

You should also try and dry it out before you use it again, I simply scrunched it up when I threw it back into the house, the melting water got on the underside and when used the next night of course froze under the sheet, it stuck slightly to the roof. No damage or anything like that and it still prevent the ice forming on the windows, but it gave a bit of a fright listing to the "tearing" as the ice broke

Hi Niel, no offence taken

I do have a garage like most, a double at that, but again like most the majority of garages are not used for their cars. Sadly mine is a warehouse, my partner moved in this year and we had the "two into one" syndrome.

Two fridges, two washing machines etc etc. oh how I wish I could use my garage.

We also park the motorhome in front of the garage, indeed we have to park it across the doors due to its length, and it would be a pain removing the wheel clamps etc.

I just wish for once in my life I could use my garage

Thanks for the comments folks.
Seems like its not just me having some problems after all.

I do have a garage and its is huge, but the more space the more junk you find to keep! I really do need to have a good clean out. But I do have to work till 9pm some times so the top cover is my only option, and I will still have the same problem if I stay out late doing other stuff.

I do really love my EOS, it's a beatiful car and very nice to drive too.
I especailly like the heated leather seats in winter, but I may have loved another open top car which might of not give have given me such aggravation every winter.
My friend had a Peugeot open top for a few years and she never had any problems with freezing windows in that. I thought a VW would have been far better than a Peugeot.

Still think it should be highlighted when buying one.

The only other car I knew that had the windows that come down to let you open the door was a friend's Mercedes 350SL (or some 300 number). As that car never left the garage in bad weather, I doubt she would have ever noticed that.

Another friend asked me if they'd fixed the freezing window problem, and suggested that if I expect freezing precipitation I make sure I have an ice scraper OUTSIDE my car, but I will be honest....I will probably not be driving this if it is going to be freezing rain or ice. I'll drive one of the other cars and leave mine in the garage.

Experienced the same freezing issue... As Gogg puts it, scratching, or de-icing with spray and then quite some patience unitl it works... However, if one experiences fog in the inside of the window, then it frozes inside and then de-icing is of no help as things get frozen also INSIDE the door... Actualy, opening the door/window was OK, it's more that the window then stays down by an inch... Not very convenient when it's -x outside ;-)

Seals fixed... And weather as well ;-)

As explained in other threads, car back from dealer: replaced faulty seals in between top part of roof (where the side pillars meet the windhsield) and adjusted the threshold in betwwen down/up movements of the side windows. This apparently causes no more water leask, no more fog and no more ice in the inside of the car... But since weather has improved today, I cannot truly confirm if it fixes the 'freeze me out' syndrom...

Hi everyone,
Just confirming, if I use de-icer on the seals around the driver/passenger windows, this won't hurt the rubber at all?

I just use luke warm water its more effective than de-icer i've found :) I wasn't sure if it would affect the seals so i've not risked it.
