What with diesel reaching £1.20/ltr, I drove to work yesterday, 60 miles of A/Motorway roads, and recorded an average 58.0 mpg :) . Current consumption is averaging 48.6 mpg.

In fact I had a higher range when I arrived than when I left  ...

Of course the car has only coverered 950 miles so far, and I have not driven above 3000 rpm as I believe in running the engine in for a couple of thousand miles. Mind you the diesel engine encourages relaxed cruising. Top down accounts for about 25% of this total, and is accompanied by about a 3 mpg drop.

I wonder if anyone else is beating the manufacturer's official mpg figures?

Having only filled the tank twice, I'm striving to reach 600 miles on a tank. For reference, my old 1.9TDI Vento (Jetta3) achieved 56 mpg over 120K miles :D and had a similar sized tank (55L), and a range of 660 miles.

I'm rather pleased that a car of this weight and modern engine design is as efficient as hoped.

regards,
daren

Hi
Well I will not try and convert l/100 (liters per 100kms) into mpg's, yet can only share that I regularly beat VW's figures... however thsi works both ways and can be expected... If i drive smoothly, letting the DSG do its magic, i can go as low as an avg 6.x liters/100kms (~60 miles with 1.5 G), vs. ~8 liters/100kms in VW documents... I however can reach close to 9.x or 10 liters/100kms when extensively using pallets and driving a bit 'sporty'...
On avg, my consumption is around 7.2-7.5 liters/100kms..

Having changed from a Focus ST to an Eos 2.0 Turbo i'm very interested to see what economy figures i get. Focus average claimed at 30mpg whereas Eos at 34mpg. Focus renowned for that being very optimistic, i'd say i often got little more than 24mpg.

Miles remaining estimator on the Eos alot slower than the Focus and as far as i can see moves in 5mpg steps. At moment on my first full tank (after the 1/4 tank dealer fill) am currently on almost 100 miles with it showing 240 remaining.

My average is about 26.5mpg (1250miles) with the 2TSI and Shell V power that is urban and dual carriageway driving. But normally quick off the mark when stopped at junctions or lights. So probably a heavy right foot. But a man needs fun else why buy the turbo.

I tend to get somewhere between 28 and 34mpg, but like GOgg probably have a heavier foot than some.

I don't do enough miles to worry about economy. I like to enjoy the ride.

Like Darin I am experiencing great economy out of my Eos TDi 2.0. My vehicle has now done 3000kms and I feel this engine feels and performs better than my last two VW diesel engines. Obviously this is due to the evolution of the motor in design and in computer management . I drive for economy and am getting over 1000 kms per tank (best is 1080km) for city driving. Better than the 2.0 Golf I had previously, and this, I feel, is due to the manner in which I have run this motor in. It has made a noticeable difference.

The high economy is what I was hoping for, but unfortunately driving in a passive manner sometimes doesnt agree with the car. My diesel particle filter has already complained to me once, but is easily rectified by increasing the load on the motor for a short time, thus resulting in an increase in heat production which clears the filter quite quickly.

For what it is worth, my personal opinion is that "VeeDoubleU" make a great product and I watch with great interest the style and technical direction they will head in the future.

P.S.......... Out of interest diesel in Adelaide, Australia is now $1.82 / litre AUD........... and rising !!!

Gasoil is now 1.50EUR/liter here... and climbing...

Am jealous of the 1000km/tank!!! My best to date was about 850km/tank, well could hav been 900, but did not want to run the risk of empty tank...
Indeed, careful ,smooth, gentle slow, driving is a source of economies...

Getting 52.5mpg on average at the moment. Little less than my last car, Polo TDi @70mpg but I am happy to take the extra cost foe such a cool car :)

Forgot to say, when not driving sensibly, my Lotus 7 does less than 10 mpg, sometimes a low 4mpg on the track giving a range of 25 miles on a tank.....

Happy days....
